NCAA Game Summary - ULM at Louisiana

(Saturday, November 30)

Final Score: ULM 31, Louisiana 28

Lafayette, LA (SportsNetwork.com) - Kolton Browning threw for 247 yards and two touchdowns to lead the ULM Warhawks past the first-place Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns, 31-28, in Sun Belt Conference action at Cajun Field.

Browning completed 18-of-28 passes and also rushed for 36 yards for ULM (6-6, 4-3 Sun Belt), which became bowl eligible in its season finale. Rashon Ceaser (six receptions, 110 yards, TD) had a 100-yard receiving day for the fourth straight week. DeVontae McNeal had 76 rushing yards and a touchdown on just four carries.

For Louisiana (8-3, 5-1), which snapped an eight-game winning streak, Terrance Broadway was 13-of-27 for 178 yards with two touchdowns (one rushing) and three costly interceptions before being pulled for Brooks Haack (10-of-14, 126 yards, TD). Elijah McGuire carried the ball 14 times for 119 yards and a touchdown, while Jamal Robinson (five receptions, 98 yards, TD) and James Butler (five receptions, 78 yards) were impressive out wide.

Despite the loss, the Cajuns still sit alone in first place of the Sun Belt and can clinch the conference title with a win next week at South Alabama.

The Cajuns used up over five minutes on the first drive of the game, which ended with a two-yard touchdown run by Broadway to put them on the board first.

Four minutes later, the Cajuns struck again, this time on a three-yard run by McGuire, taking them out to a 14-0 lead.

With less than a minute to go in the first quarter, ULM cut the lead in half with a 29-yard touchdown pass from Browning to Ajalen Holley.

Five minutes into the second quarter, the Warhawks tied the game on a 77-yard touchdown run by McNeal, but Louisiana answered on the ensuing drive when Broadway hooked up with Darryl Surgent for a 24-yard touchdown.

Louisiana drove down to the ULM 23-yard line late in the first half, but a Broadway interception ended the threat, and the game went to intermission with the Cajuns holding a 21-14 lead.

ULM opened the second half on an 11-play, 86-yard drive that ended in a Kolton-to-Ceaser touchdown connection from 16 yards out to make the score 21-20, but the Warhawks failed to tie the game as the ensuing PAT failed.

After another Broadway pick, the Warhawks took the lead on a four-yard rushing score by Centarius Donald with 2:23 left in the third quarter. They made up for the previous failed extra point by converting a two-point conversion on a Browning pass to Holley.

ULM extended its lead to 10 points early in the fourth quarter on a 28-yard field goal off the foot of Justin Manton.

The Cajuns made things interesting the final minute when Haack completed a 25- yard touchdown pass to Robinson to bring their deficit to just three, but they were unable to recover the ensuing on-side kick attempt and the Warhawks ran out the clock for the win.

Louisiana outgained ULM, 471-394, and converted 11-of-16 third-down attempts, but losing the turnover battle (3-0) proved to be the difference.
