Final Score: San Jose State 34, UNLV 24

Las Vegas, NV (SportsNetwork.com) - Jarrod Lawson rushed for 187 yards and a touchdown as the San Jose State Spartans topped the UNLV Rebels, 34-24, in a Mountain West Conference matchup at Sam Boyd Stadium.

David Fales was 15-of-30 for 150 yards and a touchdown and handed the ball to Lawson 28 times as the Spartans (5-3, 4-1 MWC) won their fourth consecutive game. Thomas Tucker (eight carries, 94 yards, TD) and Chandler Jones (seven receptions, 72 yards, TD) were the other focal points of the offense, which generated 312 rushing yards, its highest total in a game in seven years.

Caleb Herring established a solid passing game for the Rebels (5-4, 3-2 MWC), completing 26-of-49 passes for 265 yards and two touchdowns but was intercepted twice. Maika Mataele (six receptions, 89 yards, TD), Marcus Sullivan (six receptions, 74 yards, TD) and Devante Davis (eight receptions, 79 yards) were the quarterback's three favorite targets. Herring also led the Rebels on the ground with 55 yards and a score, while Tim Cornett was limited to a mere 24 net yards on 12 attempts.

San Jose State's opening drive took almost six minutes, but finished with a 13-yard touchdown pass from Fales to Jones.

Following an interception, the Spartans found the end zone five minutes later, with Billy Freeman completing a 30-yard pass to Kyle Nunn, Freeman's only pass attempt of the game.

A 20-yard field goal just under two minutes into the second quarter by Nolan Kohorst got the Rebels on the scoreboard.

The Spartans tacked on 10 more points inside the final five minutes of the half. Lawson crossed the goal line on a 31-yard run and Austin Lopez added a field goal from 20 yards away, taking his team into halftime with a 24-3 advantage.

UNLV pushed to get back in the game with a 19-yard touchdown reception by Sullivan, followed by a one-yard TD run by Herring with 17 seconds remaining in the third, cutting the deficit to 24-17.

The Spartans intercepted Herring a minute and a half into the final frame, and the preceding drive finished with a 37-yard touchdown run by Tucker, extending the SJSU lead to 31-17.

Herring connected with Mataele with eight minutes left to play on a 16-yard touchdown pass, pulling the Rebels to within seven.

However, another Lopez field goal from 44 yards out with three minutes left sealed the deal for San Jose State which has now won four in a row.
