The Minutemen (0-5, 0-1), losers of seven in a row dating back to last season, were held scoreless for more than 55 minutes on the day as quarterbacks A.J. Following a scoreless first quarter Johnson capped off a seven-play, 91-yard drive with a 51-yard touchdown pass to Ronnie Moore midway through the second frame. William Houston made the score 14-0 with just 1:15 remaining before the half when he made his way into the end zone on a one-yard run.

Bowling Green's advantage swelled to 28-0 in the third thanks to touchdown receptions of 23 and nine yards by Tyler Beck and Heath Jackson, respectively.

Following eight punts and the end of a drive due to halftime, UMass had one of its more promising drives late in the third halted by an interception. The team's only possession in the fourth quarter began on the 29 yard line and finished up in the end zone more than six minutes later when Wegzyn found Tajae Sharpe with a 24-yard TD pass with 4:34 remaining.
