NCAA Game Summary - Cincinnati at South Florida

(Saturday, October 5)

Final Score: South Florida 26, Cincinnati 20

Tampa, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Marvin Kloss connected on four field goals and the South Florida Bulls scored two non-offensive touchdowns as they posted a surprising, 26-20, win over the Cincinnati Bearcats in American Athletic Conference action at Raymond James Stadium.

Bobby Eveld completed 10-of-16 pass attempts for 122 yards for USF (1-4, 1-0 AAC), which earned its first win under head coach Willie Taggart. Michael Pierre rushed for 61 yards on 16 carries and Andrew Davis had three receptions for 56 yards.

Brandon Kay threw for 240 yards and three touchdowns on 24-of-36 passing but was also intercepted twice. Anthony McClung led 10 Bearcats' receivers that had receptions with eight catches for 90 yards.

The Bulls wrapped up a surprising first half with a 23-6 lead. USF put the first points on the board with a 75-yard touchdown return by Nate Godwin on a blocked field goal. The Bulls then got a pair of field goals from Marvin Kloss, including a 52-yard effort. The other came from 25 yards out.

The Bearcats were able to avoid a shutout in the half with a 22-yard touchdown pass from Kay to Mekale McKay. However the extra point attempt failed.

South Florida got another non-offensive touchdown midway through the second quarter on a 10-yard fumble return from DeDe Lattimore to take a 14-point lead.

The final points of the first half came on a 24-yard field goal from Kloss as time expired in the second period.

After forcing Cincinnati into a three-and-out on the first possession of the second half, the Bulls moved to a 26-6 advantage on a 40-yard field goal from Kloss.

The Bearcats began their comeback attempt early in the fourth quarter when Kay threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to Chris Moore.

Cincinnati could have pulled closer on its next drive but the Bearcats failed to convert on fourth down at the USF 9-yard line to turn the ball over on downs midway through the fourth quarter.

However the Bearcats were not finished, as they got a 15-yard touchdown pass from Kay to McKay with just over two minutes to play.

It wouldn't be enough though as the Bulls were able to hold on for the victory.

Cincinnati lost despite having more total yards (350-241) and first downs (21-12) than South Florida.
