NCAA Game Summary - Houston at Texas-San Antonio

(Saturday, September 28)

Final Score: Houston 59, Texas-San Antonio 28

San Antonio, TX (Sports Network) - John O'Korn threw for 312 yards and four touchdowns to lead the undefeated Houston Cougars past the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners, 59-28, in a non-conference bout at the Alamodome.

O'Korn completed 24-of-36 passes for the Cougars (4-0), who are averaging over 43 points per game this season. O'Korn's key target was Deontay Greenberry, who tallied nine catches for 149 yards and a score. Xavier Maxwell managed three catches for 42 yards and two touchdowns, while Ryan Jackson had four catches for 50 yards and score to go with 18 carries for 68 rushing yards.

UTSA (2-3) was led by Eric Soza, who completed 29-of-40 passes for 316 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions. Kam Jones had four receptions for 77 yards and a touchdown, while David Glasco II rushed for 28 yards and a score on nine carries. The Roadrunners have lost three of their last four games.

Surprisingly, it was an evenly-matched first half. UTSA scored first as Soza hit Jones for a 12-yard touchdown pass. Later in the first quarter, Houston responded with a 15-yard scoring strike from O'Korn to Jackson.

A six-yard touchdown run from Greg Ward Jr. early in the second put the Cougars on top 14-7.

Midway through the second quarter, UTSA tied the game as Soza powered in a one-yard touchdown run to cap off a 14-play, 75-yard drive which lasted over seven minutes. In the final three minutes of the half, O'Korn found Maxwell for a seven-yard touchdown and Soza connected with Earon Holmes for a six-yard score. The game was knotted at 21-21 heading into the break.

The second half was dominated by the Cougars. Richie Leone made a 25-yard field goal and the Cougars blocked an attempted 29-yard field goal by UTSA and saw Brandon Wilson return it 78 yards for a touchdown. In the final minute of the third quarter, Glasco II ran in a two-yard touchdown run for the Roadrunners to cut their deficit to just three.

Houston went on to score 28 unanswered points in the fourth quarter. O'Korn threw touchdown passes to Maxwell (22 yards) and Greenberry (20 yards) and Justin Hicks managed a 15-yard touchdown run.

In the final minute of the game, the Roadrunners were looking to score until backup quarterback Tucker Carter's pass was intercepted and returned 96 yards for a touchdown by William Jackson.

Turnovers were the difference in this one, as Houston's defense forced UTSA into four interceptions while the Cougars had no giveaways themselves.
