Mobile, AL (SportsNetwork.com) - The South Alabama Jaguars were led by Jay Jones, who rushed for 99 yards and a touchdown, as they defeated the Kent State Golden Flashes, 38-21, in a non-conference matchup at Ladd Peebles Stadium.

Jones carried the ball 13 times, while Kendall Houston added 43 yards and two touchdowns on just seven attempts for the Jaguars (3-3), who snapped out of a two-game slide. Ross Metheny also played a key role, completing 16-of-23 passes for 224 yards and a touchdown while also contributing 21 yards and a score on the ground.

Kent State (2-6) was led by Dri Archer, who put together a great all-around performance. Archer ran for 114 yards and a touchdown on just 10 carries while also catching two passes for 85 yards and a score. David Fisher completed 14- of-26 passes for 181 yards and two touchdowns as the Golden Flashes dropped their third consecutive game.

Midway through the first quarter, South Alabama tallied the game's first score with a five-yard touchdown run by Jones. After a 45-yard field goal by Aleem Sunanon early in the second quarter, the Jaguars led 10-0.

Kent State answered back strong on the ensuing drive as Archer ran for a 74- yard touchdown. The Jaguars then responded with a nine-play, 79-yard drive, which was capped off by a 16-yard touchdown pass from Metheny to Danny Woodson. South Alabama led 17-7 at the break.

The Jaguars kept things going in the second half. Houston took in a three-yard touchdown run midway through the third quarter, and early in the fourth quarter Metheny ran in a 16-yard touchdown of his own to increase South Alabama's lead to 31-7.

On the first play of the following drive, Fisher passed to Archer, who made a nice move on a defender and took it all the way to the end zone for a 73-yard touchdown.

Houston ran in a 14-yard touchdown a few minutes later for his second score of the day to effectively put the game away for South Alabama.

With the game out of hand in the final minute, Fisher completed a four-yard pass to Casey Pierce for a touchdown to pad Kent State's stats.

South Alabama was 6-of-11 on third down, while Kent State converted on just 3- of-12 third-down attempts.
