Kill gets raise, extra year at Minnesota

Minneapolis, MN (SportsNetwork.com) - Minnesota head football coach Jerry Kill was given an extra year on his contract and had his deal restructured at the school.

The new contract for Kill runs through the 2018-19 season and will pay him $2.1 million for the 2014-15 campaign. That's a raise from the $1.2 million he was to earn next season.

"Coach Kill is proving his model works here at the University of Minnesota," said university athletics director Norwood Teague. "It is right to support him as he builds a program that will make the state of Minnesota proud."

Minnesota finished 8-5 last season, his third at the school. The Golden Gophers lost to Syracuse in the Texas Bowl to conclude the year. It was a successful year for Minnesota, which won four straight Big Ten games for the first time since 1973 and topped Nebraska for the first time since 1960.

"I am extremely proud of what our players and coaches accomplished on and off the field last season," Kill said. "We still have a lot of work to do, but are moving the program in the right direction. I look forward to continuing to build a program that positively represents the great people of Minnesota and am excited to work with our players again when we start spring practice in early March."

Kill has suffered multiple seizures during his tenure at Minnesota. The 52- year-old missed the Oct. 5 game at Michigan due to one.
