(Saturday, August 31)

Final Score: Texas-San Antonio 21, New Mexico 13

Albuquerque, NM (Sports Network) - Eric Soza threw for 237 yards and a pair of touchdowns as the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners overcame a double-digit first- half deficit to take down the New Mexico Lobos, 21-13, in a non-conference contest at University Stadium to open the season.

Soza was 21-of-34 passing on the night and also led the Roadrunners (1-0) with 48 rushing yards. David Glasco II had just 40 total yards but finished with two touchdowns, one rushing and one receiving.

For New Mexico (0-1), quarterback Cole Gautsche led the team with 118 rushing yards, but he was just 4-of-12 passing for 65 yards. Gautsche did manage to throw a touchdown pass to Marquis Bundy, who finished with three receptions for 53 yards.

With UTSA driving early in the first quarter, New Mexico forced a fumble and SaQwan Edwards returned it 45 yards for a touchdown to get the scoring started. The ensuing two-point conversion attempt failed.

New Mexico added to its lead early in the second quarter when Gautsche connected on a 37-yard touchdown pass to Bundy.

The Roadrunners finally found the scoreboard late in the first half when Glasco II rushed in a one-yard score, as they went into intermission facing a six-point deficit, 13-7.

UTSA came out strong after halftime by going 75 yards in six plays in the opening drive of the second half, capped off by a 38-yard scoring strike from Soza to Brandon Armstrong, giving the Roadrunners a 14-13 lead.

The Roadrunners added one more touchdown late in the fourth quarter to further separate themselves, with Soza finding Glasco II from eight yards out.

The UTSA defense held New Mexico to just 277 yards of total offense. The Lobos were also ineffective on third down (2-of-13).
