NCAA Game Summary - Wake Forest at Boston College

(Friday, September 6th)

Final Score: Boston College 24, Wake Forest 10

Chestnut Hill, MA (Sports Network) - Andre Williams rushed for a career-high 204 yards and a touchdown on 35 carries to lead Boston College to a 24-10 victory over Wake Forest in the ACC opener for both teams at Alumni Stadium.

Chase Rettig threw a pair of touchdown passes to help the Eagles (1-0 ACC) move to 2-0 under new head coach Steve Addazio heading into next Saturday's trip to No. 25 USC.

Michael Campanero caught five Tanner Price passes for 86 yards and a touchdown for Wake Forest (1-1, 0-1 ACC), but the Demon Deacons committed three costly turnovers and were stopped on downs late in the first half despite having a 1st-and-goal from the BC 3-yard line.

Price finished with 191 yards on 18-of-30 passing and accounted for two of those miscues, losing a fumble and throwing one interception.

Wake Forest's mistakes began right from the onset, as Josh Harris fumbled on the second play from scrimmage and the Eagles recovered at the Deacons' 27- yard line. Two plays later, Rettig hit Alex Amidon for a 26-yard touchdown just 1:23 in.

Price engineered a 10-play, 76-yard drive capped by his 30-yard scoring strike to Campanero that tied the game with 2:48 left in the opening quarter, but fumbled upon being hit by Connor Wujciak on Wake Forest's ensuing possession after Boston College went back ahead on Nate Freese's 33-yard field goal.

The Eagles pounced on the loose ball at the opposing 22-yard line, and Rettig found a wide-open Spiffy Evans on the very next snap to put the Eagles up 17-7 with five seconds elapsed in the second quarter.

Wake Forest had a golden opportunity to pull closer when Nikita Whitlock blocked Freese's punt to give the Deacons the ball on the Eagles' three with 52 seconds left in the half. However, Harris was stuffed twice at the 1-yard line in between a Price incompletion to give the ball away on downs.

Williams took over from there, accounting for the majority of the damage on a 7-play, 47-yard series he ended with a 2-yard burst into the end zone that extended the margin to 24-7 late in the third quarter.

Wake Forest marched 66 yards on 14 plays on the next drive, but the offense sputtered again deep in BC territory and the Deacons settled for Chad Hedlund's 26-yard field goal with 10:17 left to play.

The Demon Deacons only got the ball back once more over the remainder of the game, however, with the Eagles running out the final 5:14 behind a sequence of Williams runs.
