NCAA Game Summary - Indiana at Michigan State

(Saturday, October 12)

Final Score: Michigan State 42, Indiana 28

East Lansing, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - Jeremy Langford ran for 109 yards and scored four times, as the Michigan State Spartans out-lasted the Indiana Hoosiers, 42-28, in Big Ten Conference play at Spartan Stadium.

Three of Langford's TDs came on the ground, while the other came on a second- quarter reception. Connor Cook completed 22-of-31 passes for 235 yards with two touchdowns and one interception for the Spartans (5-1, 2-0 Big Ten), who beat Iowa last week in their conference opener.

The Hoosiers (3-3, 1-1) came up short in their first road game of the season, despite 79 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries from Tevin Coleman. Nate Sudfeld was 14-of-30 for 137 yards, while backup Tre Roberson completed 11- of-17 passes for 122 yards with two touchdowns and an interception.

Coleman provided some early fireworks, and quieted the home crowd, with a 64- yard touchdown run on the game's fourth play from scrimmage.

The Spartans tied things up at the 13:34 mark of the second quarter, when Cook found Langford for an 11-yard touchdown pass.

Michigan State took a 14-7 lead on Cook's 34-yard scoring strike to Bennie Fowler midway through the second quarter.

IU answered with a three-yard touchdown pass from Roberson to Cody Latimer with just over four and a half minutes to play in the half.

However, MSU went into the locker room with a 21-14 halftime lead after Langford's five-yard TD run with 37 seconds on the clock.

Langford picked up right where he left off to begin the third quarter, scoring on a two-yard run on the Spartans' opening drive of the half to make it a 28-14 game.

IU answered with a seven-play, 72-yard drive, which ended with Shane Wynn's two-yard touchdown plunge to trim the margin to 28-21 midway through the third quarter.

Langford found the end zone yet again at the 3:23 mark of the third, as he broke free for a 32-yard touchdown run to extend the Spartans' lead to 35-21.

R.J. Shelton pushed the Spartans' lead to 42-21 on a 34-yard touchdown burst in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter.

Roberson cut the deficit to 42-28 on a four-yard scoring strike to Ted Bolser with 2:17 to play, but the Hoosiers would draw no closer the rest of the way.

With the win -- their fifth straight in the head-to-head series -- the Spartans retained the Old Brass Spittoon.
