Chas Gessner
Although Harvard's Carl Morris took home Ivy League Player of the Year honors, Gessner was the conference's Walter Payton Award candidate and surpassed the Harvard standout in several key receiving categories. In just nine games, Gessner caught 83 passes for 1,182 yards and 12 touchdowns, earning Second-Team All-America honors for his work. A fiery competitor who was reportedly less than pleased at Morris' league MVP selection, Gessner caught a mind-boggling 31 passes for 495 yards in his first two games of the season, and rattled off four 100-yard games the rest of the way. This year, the Hyattsville, MD native should continue to provide matchup problems for opposing coaches while looking to get Brown back in the Ivy title hunt. By the way, Brown meets Harvard Sept. 28 in Providence.

Fordham head coach Dave Clawson on Gessner, "He's ridiculous. I don't know if there's a player we face other than him that you absolutely have to change your defensive scheme to take him away. If you just say you're going to play your normal defense and he's going to get what he's going to get, and hope someone else will beat you, what he gets might be enough to beat you. He's tall, he's a big target, he's a long strider, he runs very good routes, and I think he's deceptively fast, I think he can pull away from people. He's a warrior too, I've seen that kid take a beating and there's no quit to him."
