NCAA Game Summary - Louisiana at Arkansas State

(Tuesday, October 22nd)

Final Score: Louisiana 23, Arkansas State 7

Jonesboro, AR (SportsNetwork.com) - Alonzo Harris rushed for 105 yards and two touchdowns on 29 carries to lead Louisiana-Layfayette to a 23-7 triumph over Arkansas State on Tuesday at Liberty Bank Stadium.

Terrance Broadway finished 18-of-28 passing for 205 yards with an interception, while Elijah McGuire racked up 110 yards on 10 carries for the Ragin' Cajuns (5-2, 3-0 Sun Belt), who have ripped off five straight wins since opening the season with back-to-back losses.

Adam Kennedy struggled under center for the Red Wolves (3-4, 1-1), completing just 11-of-20 passes for 89 yards with an interception while scoring the team's only touchdown with a 3-yard run in the second quarter.

Kennedy was picked off by Sean Thomas on the game's opening drive, setting up a 36-yard field goal from Stephen Brauchle that gave Louisiana an early 3-0 lead.

After an Arkansas State three-and-out, Harris extended Louisiana's ensuing series with a 3-yard pickup on 4th-and-1 before capping the 12-play march with a 3-yard TD run to make it 10-0 late in the first frame.

Harris added another 3-yard score on the Ragin' Cajuns' next sequence to increase the margin before Rocky Hayes intercepted a Broadway pass later in the quarter to set up Kennedy's 3-yard TD run that brought the Red Wolves within 17-7 with 3:39 left in the half.

Brauchle buried a 38-yard field goal in the closing seconds of the half to send the Ragin' Cajuns into the break with a 20-7 cushion.

Louisiana held Arkansas State's offense off the field for much of the third quarter, limiting the Red Wolves to just four offensive plays in the frame.

The Ragin' Cajuns came up empty on a 14-play, half-opening drive after Brauchle missed a 28-yard field goal, but the Louisiana place kicker made good on a 30-yarder late in the quarter to make it 23-7.

Louisiana's defense made the lead stand from there, forcing the Red Wolves to punt on their only two possessions of the fourth quarter before running the final 8:54 off the game clock to secure the victory.
