NCAA Game Summary - Texas State at Idaho

(Saturday, November 2)

Final Score: Texas State 37, Idaho 21

Moscow, ID (SportsNetwork.com) - Tyler Jones finished with two touchdowns and 228 yards, on 19-of-24 passing, as the Texas State Bobcats downed the Idaho Vandals, 37-21, at the Kibbie Dome.

For the Bobcats (6-3), Robert Lowe rushed for 61 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries, while Terrence Franks pulled in two receptions for 85 yards and a score as the Bobcats posted their third win in a row.

Taylor Davis threw for 181 yards and two scores on 20-of-35 passing for the Vandals (1-8). James Baker added 114 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries, while Dezmon Epps caught six balls for 54 yards, as Idaho lost its fourth straight outing.

The Bobcats opened the scoring with a one-yard touchdown run by Lowe, which was set up when the defense recovered an Epps fumble at the Idaho 28-yard line. The Vandals knotted the score at 7-7 midway through the first quarter when Davis found Deon Watson with a 20-yard scoring pass.

The Bobcats scored on a nine-yard run by Lowe early in the second and tacked on a 42-yard field goal by Jason Dann to take a 17-7 lead midway through the period.

A James Baker seven-yard touchdown carry cut the Bobcat lead to 17-14 with under four minutes left in the half. The Bobcats were able to sneak another score in just before halftime, as Jones found Isaiah Battle for a four-yard touchdown as time expired, but a failed PAT left the visitors with a 23-14 edge at the break.

Texas State scored the only points of the third when Tim Gay reached the end zone from 20 yards out at the 5:52 mark. The Bobcats tacked on another TD in the fourth as Jones hooked up with Terrence Franks on a 67-yard pass play, extending the team's advantage to 37-14.

Idaho then put together a 14-play, 78-yard drive, using up close to five minutes on the clock and culminating with a 10-yard TD pass from Davis to Richard Montgomery, but by then it was too little, too late.

The Vandals allowed just 336 yards of total offense to the visitors, but still Texas State averaged a solid 5.4 yards per snap.
