Berkeley, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Led by Connor Halliday's career-high 521 yards through the air the Washington State Cougars passed their way to a Pac-12 conference victory at Memorial Stadium over the California Golden Bears by a score of 44-22

The Cougars (4-2, 2-1 Pac-12) displayed a dominant passing offense on Saturday. Halliday completed 41-of-67 pass attempts and had three touchdowns to offset an interception. Halliday's 67 passing attempts is a new school record. Marcus Mason caught four passes for 118 yards and a score and also led the team in rushing with 32 yards on seven carries. Vince Mayle had four catches as well to total 113 yards and two touchdowns.

The Cougars had lost their previous eight games against Cal.

The Golden Bears (1-4, 0-2) were nearly as good in the air as the Cougars. Jared Goff had 489 yards and two touchdowns on 32-of-58 passing. Goff also threw a pair of touchdowns and an interception. Chris Harper ended the day with 13 receptions, a career-high 216 yards, and a touchdown. Brendan Bigelow was the most effective rusher for Cal as he had 41 yards on 12 carries.

Washington State jumped out to an early 7-0 lead after scoring on its opening drive of the game as Halliday completed a 35-yard touchdown pass to Mayle with 9:26 left in the first quarter.

The Cougars' offensive attack continued to be strong in the first quarter as Jeremiah Laufasa scored on a five-yard rush putting WSU up 14-0 over the Golden Bears.

Cal finally got on the board by tackling the Cougars' Teondray Caldwell in his own end zone for a safety. This left the score 14-2 with 13:51 left in the half.

Following the safety the Golden Bears were able to put three points on the board with a 35-yard field goal from Vincenzo D'Amato.

Cal continued to roll in the second stanza as it scored on an 89-yard touchdown pass from Goff to Harper. This brought the Golden Bears within two points with 7:20 left before the intermission.

The Cougars failed to convert on a 39-yard field goal by Andrew Furney with 3:11 on the clock.

The Cougars would go on to score on a 68-yard pass from Halliday to Mason. This put the visitors up 21-12 with 1:04 before the break.

D'Amato hit on a 45-yard field goal with 15 seconds left in the second quarter. This finished off a drive that went 49 yards in only 43 seconds. The field goal left Washington State up 21-15 at halftime.

WSU came out on its second drive of the second half and drove down the field to a score. Teondray Caldwell scored his first career touchdown on a 10-yard rush. This put the Cougars up 28-15.

The Cougars' strong passing attack didn't let up as Halliday hit Mayle on a 72-yard touchdown pass on the first play of the next drive. This gave WSU a commanding 20 point lead with 4:24 left in the third frame.

Cal answered back with a quick, long touchdown pass of its own as Goff connected with James Grisom on a 53-yard passing score on the third play of the Golden Bears' next drive.

WSU extended its lead with a trio of field goals from Andrew Furney, the first from 44-yards out, the second from 41 and the last from 28, in the fourth quarter.
