Birmingham, AL (SportsNetwork.com) - Jaquez Johnson compiled a career-best 404 yards of offense and three total touchdowns to lift the Florida Atlantic Owls to a 37-23 win over the UAB Blazers in a Conference USA bout at Legion Field.

Johnson threw for 299 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 23-of-36 passing efficiency and rushed for 105 yards and a score to help FAU (2-4, 1-3 C-USA) earn its first-ever league win as a member of the C-USA. Jonathan Wallace contributed 105 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries and Jay Warren added 59 yards with a score on only seven rushes. William Dukes tied for the team-lead with four catches which he turned into 56 yards and a touchdown.

Austin Brown hit on 18-of-33 pass attempts for 256 yards and a pair of touchdowns for UAB (1-4, 0-1) as it suffered its second consecutive loss. Darrin Reaves paced the Blazers with 48 yards rushing and 82 receiving yards on five grabs.

The Owls struck first as Mitch Anderson connected on a 42-yard field goal to conclude their opening drive.

UAB answered as Brown completed an 18-yard touchdown pass to Jordan Howard. Ty Long converted the extra point attempt and also made a 34-yard field goal try to give the Blazers a 10-3 lead after 15 minutes of action.

FAU narrowed the deficit in the opening stages of the second quarter as Johnson rushed two yards for a touchdown. Anderson's extra point try was blocked, which left the Owls trailing, 10-9.

After being stopped on third down, the Blazers added to their lead with a 37- yard field goal by Long. FAU took back the lead at the 6:35 mark of the second quarter as Wallace rushed one-yard into the end zone to conclude a 10-play, 75-yard drive. The Owls took a 23-13 lead into the intermission after Johnson completed a three-yard touchdown pass to Nexon Dorvilus in the closing seconds of the second quarter.

UAB scored 10 consecutive points in the third quarter to tie the score at 23. Brown finished off the team's opening drive of the second half with a 29-yard touchdown pass to Jamari Staples. Long made the game-tying 30-yard field goal with 5:06 left to play in the third frame.

The Owls answered once again as they marched 72 yards in four plays to set up a three-yard touchdown rush by Warren. Anderson was benched after making only 1-of-3 field goal tries in the first half. His replacement, Dalton Schomp, had his extra-point attempt blocked, which left FAU with a 29-23 lead as the game progressed into the fourth quarter.

The Blazers were unable to rally back in the final frame. FAU added some insurance with 1:22 remaining as Dukes reeled in a five-yard touchdown pass from Johnson. The pair hooked up again on the ensuing two-point conversion attempt to give the Owls a lasting, 37-23 lead.

FAU had an outstanding offensive performance as it racked up 579 yards of total offense and moved the chains on 11-of-17 third-down plays. UAB was limited to 307 total yards in its C-USA opener.
