ACC Power Poll

Welcome to the weekly ACC Power Poll where each week we wonder out loud does anyone want to win this conference. The conference is so unpredictable this year they are thinking of changing the name from Atlantic Coast Conference to the Atlantic Chaos Conference (I will be here all week, please tip your waitresses). Anyway, here goes nothing.

1. Maryland (7-3)-They knock off UNC ten days after being embarrassed on Thursday night by the Hokies. Something about Byrd Stadium and ranked teams gets them ready to play. Ralph Friedgen may still get to break out his new swim suit in Tampa.

2. Miami (7-3)-The ‘Canes and Randy Shannon’s text minutes have been a stand by joke all season in this spot, but the young ‘Canes are suddenly no joke as they control their own destiny.

3. Florida State (7-3)-No they aren’t back. Suspending five Wide Receivers before a big game is no win to get back to being a national power. What happened to Bobby Bowden’s favorite phrase, “Boys will be boys”?

4. North Carolina (7-3)-Should be better this week especially if Tyler Hansbrough gets back on the court.

5. Georgia Tech (7-3)-Paul Johnson’s offense is still being questioned by a certain former Tight End from NC State, who talks on the radio. A win over the ‘Canes and even the less famous Mark Thomas will have to give Johnson Jackets their due.

6. Boston College (7-3)-All this Big East team needs to do is win out to go to Tampa and essentially kill any chance of the ACC making money this season on the title game.

7. Virginia Tech (6-4)-Seth Greenberg says you would be insane not to think the Hokies still might end up in title game.

8. Wake Forest (6-4)-Most media friendly coach in the ACC, but I have to say this team really underachieved this season.

9. NC State (4-6)-Best 4-6 team in the conference.

10. Virginia (5-5)-Word is Al Groh won’t go at the end of the season no matter what. So firealgroh.com employees won’t be laid off around the holidays. Who says all the economic news is bad?

11. Clemson (5-5)-Lane Kiffin, Virginia Tech Defensive Coordinator Bud Foster, and Oklahoma Defensive Coordinator Brent Venables, have all interviewed for the head coaching job with the Tigers. Not exactly the names the Tiger faithful were hoping for when Terry Bowden got the pink slip.

12. Duke (4-6)-Although it is OFFICIALLY basketball season on campus, David Cutcliffe did some nice things in year one, but he will need time to get some players.
