Zach Johnson took the Sony Open in Hawaii on Sunday with a final round 5-under 65. He sailed to a two stroke victory. Two former Wake Forest stars got off to a great start as well. Webb Simpson and Bill Haas both finished tied for ninth place.
Simpson closed with a 2-under round of 68. It was just a month ago that Simpson earned his PGA playing card. He finished in the top ten in his first tour event as a rookie. The Wake Forest alum played high school golf at Broughton in Raleigh.
The 26-year old Bill Haas finished his round slightly different. He finished birdie-eagle on the 17th and 18th holes to close with a 68, which put him in a tie for ninth with Simpson. The son of pro golfer Jay Haas had an outstanding career at Wake Forest, where he was a three-time first team All-American.
The PGA Tour heads to California this week for the Bob Hope Classic.
