One day after announcing a bunch of new Duke football players on signing day, Devils head coach David Cutcliffe announced Thursday that two others are off the team.
Freshman linebacker Trent Mackey has been dismissed from the program for violation of team standards and freshman defensive back Randez James has been suspended from the team and will miss spring practice.
Mackey, a 5-10, 200-pound native of Carencro, La., appeared in 11 games in 2008 and was credited for 10 total tackles. He is no longer enrolled at Duke, according to Duke officials.
James, a 5-11, 175-pound native of San Antonio, Texas, did not play in 2008. His status as a member of the program will be evaluated at the conclusion of the spring semester.
