Thanks again to the ACC for putting a a great release:
Miami’s Jack McClinton has been named ACC Player of the Week and Florida State’s Solomon Alabi is the ACC Rookie of the Week.
In earning Player of the Week honors for the third time in his career, McClinton averaged 33.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals as the Hurricanes defeated sixth-ranked Wake Forest, 79-52, on Wednesday and lost at No. 4 Duke Saturday in overtime 78-75.
The Baltimore, Md. senior made 23-of-37 from the floor in the two games, including 11-of-16 from behind the arc. Against the Demon Deacons, McClinton tallied 32 points, including a season-high six three-pointers. Three days later, McClinton scored a season-high 34 points in Cameron Indoor Stadium and forced overtime with a 28-foot three-pointer with 20 second left to play. You can hear Duke head coach Mike krzyzewski's comments on Mcclinton in the little box upper right hand corner on this page. The 6-1 senior guard scored Miami’s final 11 points of regulation and all seven overtime points.
In earning the rookie award for the first time this season, Alabi scored 25 points, pulled down 16 rebounds and blocked seven shots in helping Florida State to a pair of come-from behind victories over Georgia Tech and on the road against 10th-ranked Clemson.
--Thanks to Brian Morrison at the ACC for handing out the press release.
UNC versus Duke at Cameron is going to have a ton written about, but this game means more to Duke than to UNC right now. The Heels know they have the talent to make a deep run. The Devils need to know they have the talent to beat the elite teams. The Clemson game had a sour enough taste to hang around for most of the Devils match-up with Miami on Saturday.
Stat of the weekend:
Blacksburg, VA—NC State has one made field goal the final 9:52 of the second half. That is how an 18 point lead evaporates, that and 22 turnovers.
