Towe, Spanarkel, Scott lead ACC Legends class

Monte Towe of N.C. State, Charlie Scott of North Carolina and Jim Spanarkel of Duke are among the 12 ACC basketball players who will be honored as ACC Basketball Tournament Legends at the tournament this year in Atlanta.
The Legends will be honored at a brunch at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis Hotel on Saturday, March 14 beginning at 10 a.m. Tickets, priced at $35 each with tables of 10 available for $350, can be purchased from the Atlanta Sports Council by calling 404-586-8470 or by going to theACC.com.
The Legends will be recognized at halftime of the first semifinal game on March 14.
Also being honored this year are Georgia Tech’s Brian Oliver, Florida State’s Ron King, former Clemson, Virginia Tech and Miami head coach Bill Foster, Wake Forest’s Frank Johnson, Boston College’s Danya Abrams, Clemson’s Randy Mahaffey, Maryland’s Al Bunge, Virginia’s Richard Morgan and Virginia Tech’s John Wetzel.
Towe led the Wolfpack to the ACC titles in 1973 and ’74 and the NCAA title in ’74. Spanarkel paced Duke to the ACC crown in 1978, and Scott led Carolina to the league championship in 1969.
