Russell Wilson has become the star of N.C. State athletics. He can run, he can pass, he only threw one interception all season, and oh yeah, he plays baseball too.
Wilson suffered a tear to his posterior cruciate ligament in the loss to Rutgers in the Papajohns.com Bowl. Luckily that injury was not serious enough to require surgery.
The duel-sport star may not be back to action for the start of N.C. State's baseball season this Friday, but it won't be long before he hits the diamond.
"I think they're taking it day by day, the last MRI was last week and it showed the knee is very stable and healing very nicely," Avent told 99.9 FM The Fan on Tuesday's Sports Lunch. "I just they want to be safe and sure so they'll probably give it another couple of weeks and you're going to see Russell Wilson out on the baseball field."
Wilson played in 32 games in his first season with the baseball team, batting .296 with eight RBI. He went 2 for 4 and had two RBI in the team's one win over Georgia in the NCAA Super Regional round in June.
