No vindication for Terps' Williams

Maryland basketball coach Gary Williams has had his share of tough moments this season, with player attrition and squabbles with the administration. Athletics director Debbie Yow even issued a statement of support for Williams - which is never a good sign when the AD has to say, um, yep, you have my support.
So Saturday's upset over North Carolina was a boost. It pushed the Terps to 17-9 overall and 6-6 in the ACC - and in prime position to make the NCAA field. And it came right after a crushing Terps loss at Clemson.
But if the victory was any vindication for Williams, he wasn't saying so Monday.
"I don't coach for vindication," Williams said. "I coach to make my team as good as possible as they play through the season."
Still, one has to suspect that the jubilation felt in College Park Saturday was particularly enjoyed by their veteran coach.
