Obama shows more love for UNC

While I agree with Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski that there are more important things to be worrying about right now if you’re the president than filling out your NCAA bracket, I can respect the fact that the country’s chief executive is taking time to get in touch with his inner bracketologist.
President Barack Obama filled out his bracket this week, and chose Carolina to cut down the nets in Detroit next month.
Perhaps the man in the big white house is showing some love for the guys that allowed him to play pick-up ball late last year, or maybe he’s just giving back to the entire Tar Heel State for going blue in the last election for the first time in decades.
Yeah, you knew it was going to get political.
I mean, I half expected Florida State, Ohio State, Pitt and UCLA to be in his Final Four. After all, the home states of those programs contributed 123 electoral votes to his cause.
But, I must say, President Obama kept it pretty non-partisan. After all, he picked Texas (red state) to beat Minnesota (blue state), Memphis (red) to oust UConn (blue) and Louisville (red) to knock off the Spartans of Michigan State (blue).
Sure, he had Temple (blue) over Arizona State (red), but the fact that he’s got the Bruins and the Bears of Cal both bowing out in the first and second round, respectively, means he either didn’t let politics enter into his picks, or he got bad advice from his army of advisors.
I don’t know if I like Carolina winning it all with Ty Lawson on a bum toe, but let’s be honest, he’s the President of the United States – the guy probably has some inside information.
