ACC stumbles out of the gate

The Atlantic Coast Conference was arguably the toughest conference in the country from top to bottom. It received seven bids to the NCAA tournament, tied with both the Big East and Big Ten for the most entries.
Thursday's games produced a 3-1 record for the ACC in first round action, Clemson being the lone failure in an upset loss to Michigan. The remaining three ACC teams, Wake Forest, Florida State and Boston College, all folded like a cheap suit in defeats at the hands lower seeded teams. The Deacons, once ranked number one in the country, were the biggest flop, suffering the most embarrassing of losses to 13th-seeded Cleveland State.
The true measure of success for a conference is who is left standing at the end of the tournament. But for right now, while the other power conferences are enjoying winning records in the NCAA tournament, the ACC has three teams left to try and salvage what was supposed to be a banner year for the conference.
