Daniel Bard, who pitched for North Carolina, was recalled by the Boston Red Sox Sunday, sparking plenty of interest in New England in Bard and his 100-mph fastball.
Bard struck out 29 batters in 16 innings at Pawtucket, which spurred the Boston Globe to wax on about the best Boston power pitchers of all time in a story on its web site.
The Globe even put up a poll on the most feared Red Sox pitcher ever. The winner leader so far — Pedro Martinez, with 48 percent of the vote. Roger Clemens had 14.7 percent as of Tuesday afternoon.
The Red Sox drafted Bard in the first round out of UNC in 2006.
