UNC defeats Boston College 31-13
Nov 21, 2009
3:10pm: Add on a Casey Barth field goal, and this one is done. Carolina improves to 8-3 by defeating Boston College 31-13.
2:58pm: Ryan Houston cashes in on Williams' interception, scoring his second touchdown of the game. Houston's a bit banged up in this game, but he returns to score another short touchdown. That could wrap up a "W" for the Heels.
2:56pm: Deunta Williams hits the trifecta, pulling down his third interception and nearly taking it to the house! Williams just misses a touchdown, as he's tackled at the one.
2:33pm: BC is an appalling 0-10 on third down plays. Compare that to Carolina's 6-12 on third down, and it's amazing this game is even close. Yet it is...
2:32pm: No payoff for Carolina after that turnover. Now after 3, the Tar Heels continue to hold on to a 21-13 lead.
2:19pm: And the turnover beat goes on... Deunta Williams grabs his second pick of the game. Each quarterback has thrown three interceptions. Carolina has great field position at the BC 41.
2:14pm: The turnovers continue. BC thwarts a Carolina scoring drive with an end zone interception. That's INT #3 for TJ Yates in this game. Still 21-13 Tar Heels in the 3rd.
1:55pm: Second half's underway.
1:37pm: Six turnovers in a sloppy first half for both teams, offensively.
1:23pm: Carolina's offense has stagnated. The Heels went 70 yards on their opening drive, but the've only gained 47 yards since then. At the half, Carolina leads BC 21-13.
1:21pm: Boston College is making a game of this. Dave Shinskie's 2-yard touchdown pass to Rich Gunnell pulls the Eagles within 8 at 21-13.
12:49pm: Another big series for Carolina's defense. BC drives down to the 2, but the Heels hold and the Eagles settle for a 20-yard field goal. 21-6 Carolina in the 2nd.
12:36pm: BC answers -- sort of, converting a Tar Heel turnover into a field goal. It's 21-3 after an active first quarter.
12:25pm: Another weekend with Burney! Kendric Burney grabs another interception, and takes it back for another Pick 6. Carolina's best offense is their defense. It's 21-0 Carolina and things are getting out of hand on Chestnut Hill.
12:22pm: Give credit to EJ Wilson, who caused the fumble. Looks like Marvin Austin had a hand in there as well...
12:19pm: Carolina getting downright defensive as Cam Thomas takes the fumble back 20 yards for a touchdown. Three defensive touchdowns in the last two games for the Tar Heel defense.
12:15pm: Talk about a short-yardage back. Ryan Houston has 17 career rushing touchdowns, all but one of them 5 yards or less.
12:12pm: Carolina strikes first against the Eagles, Ryan Houston in for a touchdown. The Tar Heels grab the early 7-0 lead.
