Raleigh, N.C. — The White dominated the Blue 20-0 in the annual Saint Augustine’s College Spring Football Game on Saturday, April 14, 2012, at the George Williams Athletic Complex.
Cyril Davis threw two touchdown passes – one to Kevin Thomas for 90 yards and the other to Brian Moore for four yards – to lead the White team, made up of second-team offensive and first-team defensive players. A 78-yard scoring run by Davis was called back because of penalty. Michael Lima added field goals of 43 and 29 yards and two extra points.
“We had a good showing from our young quarterback (Davis),” Head Coach Michael Costa said. “Our tight end (Moore) had a good day, and our offensive linemen had a good showing. We had a good showing from our young linebackers as well.”
After a penalty wiped out Davis’ touchdown in the first quarter, the White got on the scoreboard in the second quarter when Davis connected with Thomas. Lima added the point after attempt.
Leading 7-0 at halftime, the White added 13 points in the second half. Lima booted his first field goal and Davis found Moore on a short touchdown pass in the third quarter. Lima wrapped up the scoring with his short field goal in the fourth quarter.
The intrasquad game ended the spring practice season for the Falcons. They open the 2012 season Sept. 1 at home against Wingate University starting at 1:30 p.m.
The Falcons return 41 lettermen from last year’s squad which finished 4-6 overall. Costa is expecting a much better result this fall based on what he saw during the spring game.
“We have a lot of young, aggressive players coming back who showed today that they have a better understanding of the offense and defense,” said Costa, who is also bringing in 30 new players from a strong recruiting class.
