Williams of St. Aug wins CIAA track coaching honor for 7th straight time

Posted May 8, 2012

— George Williams of Saint Augustine's College was named CIAA men's outdoor track and field coach of the year on Tuesday, May 8, 2012.

Williams led the men's team to its 15th straight league outdoor title in April 2012. The Falcons scored 218 points to defeat the nearest competitor by an astounding 129 points.

This is the seventh consecutive year that Williams has won the award. During his legendary 36-year coaching career at St. Aug, Williams has collected numerous conference, regional and national coaching honors. His men's and women's track teams have won 31 NCAA titles and nearly 150 CIAA championships.

The Falcons are currently second in the NCAA Division II men's outdoor rankings by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. They are preparing for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which will be held May 24-26 in Pueblo, Colo.

Williams will be honored at the CIAA Coach of the Year Luncheon on May 24, 2012, at the Newport News Marriott at City Center in Newport News, Va.
