The Saint Augustine's College men's outdoor track and field squad was named men's team of the year, and former track standout Orolando Duffus was chosen male athlete of the year at the 2012 HBCU Awards ceremony held recently at the Wiseman Student Center on the Bowie State University campus.
The St. Aug track and field team, coached by the legendary George Williams, collected its 15th straight CIAA outdoor crown in 2012. The Falcons are No. 2 in the NCAA Division II outdoor track and field rankings.
Duffus was both a track and field and academic All-American during his career at St. Aug. A long jumper and triple jumper, Duffus helped the Falcons win the NCAA Division II men's outdoor track and field championship in 2010, the same year he was named CIAA male scholar-athlete of the year. In 2011, Duffus was selected field MVP in the CIAA indoor and outdoor championships and was named Capital One first team Academic All-American in men's track and field and cross country. He also placed fourth in the triple jump at the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships that year.
A native of St. Catherine, Jamaica, Duffus graduated from St. Aug in May 2011 with a 3.926 GPA and a business administration degree. He is currently in graduate school at North Carolina Central University.
