Durham, N.C. — It is with great sadness that the North Carolina Central University Department of Athletics announces the passing of head golf coach Paul Perry. A 1967 graduate of NCCU and native of Durham, N.C., Perry passed away in his hometown on Friday at the age of 70.
In his six seasons as head coach from 2007-12, Perry’s teams posted the top seven rounds in the modern day era of NCCU golf.
“Coach Perry was a genuine and caring coach, colleague, and friend,” said NCCU Director of Athletics Dr. Ingrid Wicker-McCree. “It is extremely sad to lose such a man of his character as he was well-respected by all. He served as a father figure and mentor to each of the young men he coached at NCCU. Coach Perry established great relationships in our community that helped elevate our men’s golf program during our NCAA Division I transition. We will miss Coach Perry dearly.”
Perry played football at NCCU from 1962-64, and was a member of the 1963 CIAA championship team.
