North Carolina and North Carolina State each earned the right to host regional round games as the road to Omaha kicks off with a 64-team field and their visitors will be very familiar with the state. That is because each region will also feature a North Carolina school.
UNC (44-14) claimed the No. 6 seed nationally and will host Cornell (31-15-1) in the opening round at Boshamer Stadium Friday night at 6 p.m. Also in the Chapel Hill region for the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, however, is East Carolina (35-22-1), who earned an at-large bid after spending part of the season in the national rankings. The Pirates will open against St. John’s (37-21) on Friday at 1 p.m. at Boshamer.
The winner of the Chapel Hill region will advance to play the winner of the Arizona Regional held in Tucson.
In Raleigh, the Wolfpack (39-17) will open against Sacred Heart on Friday at 7 p.m. The other two teams in the region are Vanderbilt (33-26) and UNC-Wilmington (38-21). Both UNCW and Vandy made runs through their conference seasons and tournaments and are solid middle-seeds. They will open play at Doak Field at 2 p.m. Friday.
The winner of the Raleigh Region will advance to play the winner of the Gainesville Region where the Florida Gators are the nation’s overall No. 1 seed.

http://www.newsobserver.com/2012/05/28/2095681/nc-state-baseball-to-host-ncaa.htmlNot sure who said the Pack was in contention for a National seed besides Avent
Avent believed his team was in contention for one of the eight national seeds.
But Avent is correct when he says:
Im a little bit confused by that but we aint even got there yet, Avent said. Florida hasnt got there and neither have we. We have Sacred Heart on Friday. If I were an opposing coach in State's regional I may feel a little disrespected by this article. I already sent to Sacred Heart and Vandy coaches to see how they feel.

You actually sent the quote to State's opposing coaches in the Raleigh Regional?
That has to be the most absurd thing I have read here in quite awhile.
And all we hear from the baby blue crowd is how the so called RedRagers are the ones obsessed?
Google therapists sportznut and pick one to get counseling from. You have issues.

By the way where is Campbell University in all this mix??

The selection committee really looked at RPI and SOS (this is why ECU got a 2 seed). Campbell had a horrible RPI. I was really hoping they would make it, I also believe Wake Forest should be in.
I think the state of North Carolina can go head to head against Cali, or Florida when it comes to being the best baseball state.

It sure looks like that this year! I'm happy to see the ACC - as well as the state of North Carolina - able to be comptitive with the SEC as well as Cali.

There is no clear number 1 this year. In fact, the way the conference tourneys went last week says alot. Purdue and UCLA (No tourney and co-champs with Arizona) were the only regional hosts that won their respective tourneys
