Richard McGeorge, former Shaw University assistant football coach, has been named to the College Football Hall of Fame in the Divisional Class.

McGeorge, an All-American and Academic All-American at Elon, set school career records with 224 receptions, 3,486 yards and 31 touchdowns. His records still for nearly 40 years until they were broken in 2008.

He was drafted by Green Bay with the 16th pick in the 1970 draft and played for the Packers for nine years. In 1973, he earned the team's Offensive Player of the Year award.

After serving in the U.S. Army National Guard, McGeorge moved into the coaching ranks, with stints as an assistant coach at the college, USFL, Arena League, XFL and NFL levels. He served as offensive line coach at Shaw for five years before retiring in 2011 for health reasons.

McGeorge was inducted into the Elon University Athletics Hall of Fame in 1979 and the NAIA Hall of Fame in 1980.

The Division Class of the College Football Hall of Fame recognizes players and coaches from Division I FCS, Division II, Division III and NAIA institutions. The induction ceremony will be held July 21 in South Bend, Ind.
