Rodon, Turner named to final Team USA roster

Cary, N.C. — North Carolina State pitcher Carlos Rodon and infielder Trea Turner each made the 22-man cut to represent the USA on the collegiate national team.

Ahead of trips to Cuba and the Netherlands, the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team finalized its roster Monday with the Wolfpack pair being the lone ACC representatives.

The team is currently 4-0 with wins over the Fayetteville Swampdogs, Wilmington Sharks and Morehead City Marlins of the Coastal Plain League and Catawba Stars of the Virginia Collegiate League.

The final two games of the Prospect Classic will be played Monday and Tuesday with Rodon getting the nod and expecting to go four innings. Monday’s game will be at the National Training Complex in Cary while Tuesday’s contest wil be at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

The team will be managed by Tennessee head coach Dave Serrano as they travel to Havana to play five games against Cuba at Latin American Stadium, July 5-9. It will be the first time the two countries have met since 1996.

From there, the U.S. will conclude its summer tour by traveling to the Netherlands for Honkbal Week in Haarlem, July 13-22. The tournament will include Team USA, Cuba, Japan, the Netherlands, Puerto Rico and Chinese Taipei.
