Petersburg, Va. — The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association announced its Pre-season All-CIAA Football Team and predicted order of finish Thursday at the preseason press conference and luncheon in Petersburg, Va.
Winston-Salem State, last year’s conference champion was picked by the coaches to repeat that feat. They were followed by Elizabeth City State, St. Augustine’s, Fayetteville State and Shaw.
Four of the top five predicted finishers come from the Southern Division. A current Northern Division team has not won the conference since Virginia Union in 2001.
The Pre-season All-CIAA Team includes just two sophomores with upperclassmen making up the rest of the team. The team is highlighted by last season’s Offensive Player of the Year, Daronte McNeill of ECSU.
In all, nine players that earned 2011 All-CIAA honors were tabbed as preseason All-CIAA.
This year will mark the 100th Anniversary of the CIAA.
