Collegiate Licensing Company signs 10-year extension with East Carolina University

Posted July 11

The Collegiate Licensing Company (CLC), the licensing affiliate of IMG College, announced Friday that it has signed a 10-year extension of its partnership agreement with East Carolina University (ECU) to continue managing its trademark licensing program. The partnership, which began in 1984, will run through June 30, 2023.

Over the course of the 30-year partnership, the ECU licensing program has experienced tremendous growth, reporting increased royalty revenues 25 of the last 29 years. That time frame is highlighted by program growth of over 120% since 2007 alone. Much of that growth can be attributed to CLC and ECU working in tandem to grow the business in key North Carolina markets, advance ECU’s Retail Champions Program, and secure the University’s participation in collegiate licensing programs by Hurley, Peter Millar and TOMS.

“CLC’s expertise and relationships within the collegiate licensing industry have been instrumental in the growth of the ECU licensing program,” said Lee Workman, ECU’s Associate Athletics Director for Administration. “We value our partnership with CLC and look forward to it continuing well into the future.”

The partnership gives ECU continued access to CLC’s leading brand protection, brand management and brand development services through a comprehensive trademark licensing program customized by CLC. In addition, ECU will continue to benefit from CLC’s proven licensing services, which allows it to contract with best-in-class licensees that will advance its goals and marketplace position.

“ECU is a valued partner that we are honored to have worked with over the past three decades,” said Cory Moss, Senior VP and Managing Director of CLC. “We appreciate the opportunity to continue our partnership as we remain dedicated to finding new and innovative ways to further grow the ECU brand.”

ECU is one of seven teams in the American Athletic Conference (AAC) to be represented by CLC. Other AAC teams currently partnering with CLC include University of Central Florida, University of Cincinnati, University of Connecticut, University of South Florida, Tulane University and University of Tulsa.

CLC, the oldest and largest collegiate licensing agency in the United States, currently represents nearly 200 colleges, universities, bowl games, and athletic conferences in the $4.6 billion retail market for collegiate products.
