Collins to take Northwestern job

Posted March 27, 2013

— Duke associate head coach Chris Collins is leaving Durham after 13 years on the bench. He will take over as the head coach at Northwestern, replacing Bill Carmody who was fired after missing the NCAA Tournament for 13 straight seasons.

The news was first reported by Jeff Goodman of CBSSports.

With Collins' departure, Nate James is expected to be promoted back to an assistant coach, joining associate head coach Steve Wojciechowski and assistant coach Jeff Capel.

A formal announcement is expected to be made later on Wednesday.

Couldn't agree more! The weird thing is that Bilas was talking about Raftery and how much he loves working with him, that he's so much fun, and he enjoys going out with him for drinks or whatever after the games are finished. Raftery is only slightly less annoying than Dickie V.

I agree. I think Bilas is the best basketball guy working TV. It's a shame he gets stuck with that obnoxious Raftery guy.

Ken is not a UNC fan - he enjoys college sports without any bias whatsoever. Ken tells it like he sees it.

He has paid his dues at Duke as a player and coach. He will learn, get experience and should be in line for a big time job one day. He has learned from one of the best, and dad will always be there to assist him too. He has a solid background, and I think that when he sits down with players and parents he will win some solid players over. His interviews are on point each time that I have heard him. He will do a quality job. He finially ventured out, and his dad told him to do this a few years ago.

Best wishes Coach. You have paid your dues at Duke and done very well. You are a real good interview-as per David Glenn(not intemidated by the media). You will be missed in the Triangle area.

Give him several years of head coaching experience, and some success coaching, and you'll have another candidate for coming back to Durham when Coach K hangs up the nets for the last time.
