— Duke head coach David Cutcliffe was named Sporting News Co-National Coach of the Year, sharing the honor with Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn.

Cutcliffe, already the winner of the ACC Coach of the year for the second consecutive season as well as the Walter Camp Foundation National Coach of the Year, is also a finalist for the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award presented by the Football Writers Association of America, the Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year and Bowden Coach of the Year awards

Cutcliffe has led Duke to a school-record 10 wins, an ACC Coastal Division title, a berth in the ACC Championship game and a trip to face No. 21 Texas A&M in the Chick-fil-A Bowl on Dec. 31. The Blue Devils have qualified for bowls in back-to-back seasons for the first time in school history and enter the bowl game ranked No. 24 in the BCS rankings.

Cutcliffe is the second coach in school history to earn national coach of the year recognition, joining Fred Goldsmith who earned the Bobby Dodd Award in 1994.

My unc friend said coach Cutcliff didn't look like a football coach more like a professor. I said yes a professor of football.

I'm a Terp and a natural anti-Dukey but as a fan of the ACC I have been pulling for Coach Cut and the Duke football program this season. I'm ACC to the bone and it hurts me that the Terps are heading to the Big 10 but that's a different discussion.
Thank you Coach C for making Duke and regional ACC football nationally relevant once again..

congrats to coach cut!!! (and i just heard on the radio machine that feller down in alabama just signed hisself a multi-year contract extension..supposedly the alabama job was the only one that could tempt coach cut away, him being an alabama guy and all that)

I am an SEC fan, Arkansas, and laugh at the ACC fans when they try to compare conferences, However, I will say I was rooting for Duke and believe that Cutcliffe deserves the coach of the years honor above all others. What he has done for the Duke Program is amazing and I wish continued success in the ACC for him and the Blue Devils.

This should be Cutcliffe's award. Sure Malzhan had a good season at Auburn, but Auburn DOES have some football tradition. Duke does not.

People drinking the hatorade... Winning the Coastal Division Title, 10 games (one defensive stop from being 11-1 reg season), beating two top 20 teams within their division and an eight game winning streak is what won him the award. Auburn is going to lose to the same FSU team DUKE did.
