Duke, NC State players dominate weekly ACC honors

Posted October 22, 2012

Following a come-from-behind 33-30 win over rival North Carolina Saturday, Duke found three players on the weekly ACC awards list, including quarterback Sean Renfree.

Renfree finished 23-for-36 for 276 yards and a touchdown including the game-winner to Jamison Crowder with 13 seconds to play that capped an 87-yard drive. Duke defeats UNC Slideshow: Duke comes back to beat Tar Heels

Duke offensive lineman Perry Simmons and freshman Jela Duncan also earned honors.

NC State also found three players on the honor list this week after a narrow win over Maryland.

Six catches for 134 yards and a touchdown gave Brian Underwood the receiver of the week honor. His score gave him a school record seven consecutive games with a touchdown.

Wolfpack defensive lineman T.Y. McGill and kicker Niklas Sade were also given ACC player of the week honors at their respective positions.

Elsewhere around the ACC, Clemson defensive back Jonathan Meeks and Florida State linebacker Telvin Smith received honors.

I thought for sure the winners would be the guy from Duke who injured the UNC player with a "cheap shot", and the guy from NC State who ended the Maryland quarter back season. That would make us more like the SEC, pick the winners each week based on their pro potential to injury someone purposely. It appears as if the conference is getting the right idea about "improving" our image for quality football. Intentional injury so we can keep the right teams winning and setting up the best end of season matchups.

If Duke in part dominating the ACC weekly honors means the ACC is weak this year, how weak does that make unc@ch's football team for losing to them? ;)

Good job State and Duke !

I knew that Renfree would win this one after Saturday in the win over UNC. Crowder did a super job in this one. His last catch in traffic was a classic. He has taken over the duties when is Vernon doubled. State's Underwood has become a go-to receiver. 7 staight games with a TD. Looking forward to the State/UNC game. It will be a barn burner. At least 4 games to be played. I would love to WF upset Clemson. If State beats UNC, the Coastal Division tightens. VT has Miami on Nov 1. Cut out the TO's and we win this one.
