— For the second time in two days Friday, Duke head men's basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski announced the loss of a key player to the NBA.

As expected, sophomore Rodney Hood joined teammate Jabari Parker in declaring for the 2014 NBA Draft.

Hood, from Meridian, Miss., played two seasons for the Blue Devils after transferring from Mississippi State University.

“Rodney had two terrific years here at Duke,” Krzyzewski said. “He was an integral part of our team two years ago because he was such a great practice player, and this year he was one of the best players in the country."

In 2013-14, Hood averaged 16.1 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game and led the Atlantic Coast Conference in three-point percentage (.420; 71/169). His overall field goal percentage (.464; 191/412) ranked fourth in the conference.

In making the choice to go pro, Hood thanked his coach and teammates, saying, "Playing at Duke was a lifelong dream. Everything I experienced here has helped me grow and develop as a player and as a person. Now it is time to move on to the next level and chase my dream of becoming an NBA player. Duke played a large part in preparing me for this step, and I am looking forward to making the most of it.”

And yet you say nothing about the schools offering a scholarship to a player that they know will more than likely be one and done.

Distasteful is in the eye of the beholder. Deceitful is not. In what way did either Parker or Hood deceive Duke? Duke committed to each of them that they could play basketball for one year in exchange for room and board plus scrip worth $45K to some people. And each of them in turn agreed to stay for one year. In Hood's case, two.

Where is the deceit? Duke paid the going rate for their services for the specified time, and got a great bargain.

I saw this happening about mid-season. Hood and Parker are players that can win games with athletic ability. Duke didn't show much at times on defense, shooting, nor even rebounding. Too many teams that are way in front of Duke; overall. The record shows this.

Philadelphia, Milwaukee, and the Lakers are at the bottom of the heap...would love to see Jabari go to the Lakers, and Hood to Milwaukee..not likely but just a thought..!

Private school or not, you can't hide from the NCAA. Those are the facts. As to players that go to any school on a sports scholarship.... it is my feeling that you should apply yourself academically with there. I have serious issues with these young men who accept the scholarships with no intention of finishing school. Doing so just to be seen by pro recruiters, and then jumping ship without finishing your education is distasteful and deceitful IMO.

Duke is in the running for a 6'9" guy from Rice to transfer. It's reported he is kinda like Hood.
