Duke women’s head coach Joanne P. McCallie was named the ACC Coach of the Year Thursday for the second consecutive season and third time since joining the Blue Devils.

In all, it is McCallie’s sixth conference coach of the year honor as she was also awarded three times in two conferences during her time at Maine. Before this season, she also won ACC Coach of the Year in 2010 and 2012.

McCallie’s Duke team is 27-2 on the year, 17-1 in ACC play and rank No. 6 in the country. The Blue Devils began ACC play by winning their first 16 games to match a conference record. Duke is the No. 1 seed at the ACC tournament that gets underway Thursday and the Blue Devils have claimed at least a share of the regular season conference title four years in a row.

Maryland’s Brenda Frese was selected the ACC Coach of the Year in a vote by the league’s 12 head coaches.

OK, it seems some Blue Ribbon panel picked McCallie as CoY, but the 12 ACC coaches picked Brenda Freese as CoY. Shouldn't the title of the article say McCallie and Freese chosen as CoY? Why are there two seperate picks? The men's division doesn't have that.

Agreed - it's pretty confusing.

Congrats to Coach "P" and also to Coach Freese. Coach "P" has done a terrific job at Duke from Day 1.
