Best of all time may have to go to Phil Ford in the ACC. King Rice did give Hurley fits. Why? I dont know.

Sorry to disappoint you (not), but the current Rager frenzy inspired by the N&O's yellow journalism will come to nothing. However, you will soon have your own "mess" to revel in.

lance + jewelry + undisclosed source of cash + undisclosed backer of financing = 2010 banner to dumpster.

The NCAA has been so embarrassed by the UNC slow motion cover up that they will be harder on them now and probably make an example of them. I would hate to see Duke go through this mess but lucky for us we don't follow your Carolina way.

despite your irrational, almost pathological hatred of Roy and UNC, I am glad to find out that if the NCAA chooses not to investigate the UNC basketball program on this, or investigates it and does not penalize UNC, you will accept their decision as just and reasonable.

My point is if you are going to call out Roy for not policing his players' class choices, you should call out K for not policing his players' behavior.

Policing class choices is easier to do because you have a academic advisor who's on payroll to do just that. And Roy had Walden - the most corrupt one he could find who magically disappeared right before UNC got busted.

I don't know any college coach who accompanies their players 24x7 on Chrismas break.

An ineligible player is ineligible, whether he plays in one game or eighty. Why did Duke not have to forfeit games?

The NCAA investigated and determined Duke didn't have to forfeit games.

I asked you. I have no idea. Guess you will have to ask the NCAA.

They ruled Duke was not aware and all happened prior to him attending Duke.

Duke cooperated as they always do, so if you have an issue it is with the NCAA.

So "why" did Duke get off easy? Theory

Again. Big difference between a one time occurrence and corrupt behavior over multiple years.

I don't "disagree" with the NCAA ruling on Maggette, but I think that Duke got off pretty easy, and I have to ask myself "why"?

Lance - don't have proof, but deep down I think he got that money (and probably the necessary verbal backing for the $70K financing) from someone he shouldn't have gotten it from. Just a feeling.

My point is if you are going to call out Roy for not policing his players' class choices, you should call out K for not policing his players' behavior.

So you disagree with the NCAA ruling on Maggette?

    Proof that Lance was paid?

But don't worry, if you say it over and over it will eventually become a Hole fact.

That's funny, comparing a coach whose players took legitimately offered (although not up to standard) classes to one who used a paid player and a paid-and-blinged-out player.

In case you hadn't heard, "they" aren't there anymore. "They" are in the NBA. The "he" who remains will not have any say in who the UNC basketball coach will be - now or in 6-8 years when Roy retires.

Given the news today, UNC better start thinking about who they want as his replacement. Hopefully one that can run a clean program this time.

Nope, it doesn't. Your continued failure (with the exception of one year) is much worse, as is your coach's failure to develop an inside game. And once the 2010 banner is down, you won't even have that one year to crow about.

They didn't have to settle. They had their choice of any coach in the country and chose the one they wanted. As you may recall, the backup was also out injured. And, don't forget, the 3rd stringer took them farther than Crymea took his team.

It would sting more if Duke had 4 or 5 first round NBA draft picks and didn't win it all, let alone not see a Final Four.

Maybe they would have settled for a coach that had built up some depth at the point guard during the regular season.

It's too bad UNC didn't have him in the Elite 8 last year. If they had, maybe Barnes, Henson, Marshall and Macadoo would have seen a Final Four before their college careers ended.

He didn't have Laettner, but for his last 2 seasons he had Duhon running the point which allowed him to score more and turn it over less.

  • still heelman1973 Nov 18, 2012

Individually, Williams was much better, and he didn't need Laettner to carry him. Of course, he also didn't have King Rice to make him cry after every UNC-dook game either.

It is my humble opinion that not only was Jason williams better than Hurley but he just possibly might have been the best point guard of all time.

After all he even had a dome named in his honor. :)
