Duke 3 in New Power Rankings

After a convincing win against the defending national champion Kentucky Wildcats, Duke moves up to 3 in the new ESPN Power Rankings. UNC at 9, while NC State falls all the way to 19.

I agree. We are still improving and I have not seen the play that would inspire that kind of confidence in me yet...

Preseason rankings are bs. They are actually considered predictions of where your team will finish not where they currently are. The powers that be also put a whole lot of faith in Roy and K which often makes our preseason rankings astronomical at times. For the record if I had to rank the triangle teams right now based on performance (just eye tests not really stats) I would have Duke-8 or 9, State 25-30,and UNC 30-35. The number would be based on how many teams would have a legitimate chance of beating you more than they lost to you. The more teams the lower the ranking. And I expect all teams to improve as the season progresses (some more than others).

It's UNC

Like UK, Duke, Kansas, etc. They will always get additional consideration due to being "in the mix" almost every year.

When Duke defeats Ohio State they will deserve that #3 ranking...until then it's really more speculation on potential rather than an opinion based on conclusive results.
