When you have the best AD in the conference, you might as well extend him:

http://www.heraldsun.com/view/full_story/21030880/article-Duke-extends-Kevin-White-s-contract?instance=home_breaking_newsDURHAM -- Duke University announced a contract extension for athletics director Kevin White on Wednesday that will run through June 30, 2019.

"I'm delighted that Duke University can count on Kevin White's leadership of our athletics program for years to come," Duke University president Richard Brodhead said in a statement. "Kevin understands the importance of athletics in projecting Duke's values to the world, and he exemplifies Duke's commitment to a high level of excellence in athletic competition as well as in academics."

White's contract coincides exactly with the contract extension Duke football coach David Cutcliffe signed two weeks ago. Named this season's ACC coach of year in voting by the media and the league's coaches, Cutcliffe's deal also runs through June 30, 2019.

The 62-year-old White came to Duke from Notre Dame on May 31, 2008. Since then, Duke has won three NCAA championships -- women's tennis in 2009, men's basketball in 2010 and men's lacrosse in 2010 - and 12 ACC titles. The Blue Devils won three ACC championships this calendar year.

"To be sure, it is indeed a tremendous honor, as well as a supreme privilege, to serve Duke University," White said in a statement. "Representing a 'world class' university, from both an academic and athletics perspective, is terribly gratifying. Simply put, our esteemed President, Dr. Brodhead, along with our outstanding Board of Trustees, has continually provided distinctive leadership and unqualified support."
