I'm assuming you were in a coma during the 2010 NCAA tournament. You know, that year Duke won it all?

Marshall Plumlee can be the guy who can give Mason breaks. His size and improved physicality gives them a force on the boards and his natural shot-blocking abilities would give Coach K a strong presence in the paint, something the team badly lacks outside of Ryan Kelly and Mason.
Offensively, Marshall is still a work in progress. Even in high school, Plumlee only managed 11.5 ppg, so don't expect him to return from injury and give Duke another double-digit scorer on a nightly basis. That being said, he could still make an impact, as his tremendous size and athleticism gives Duke a boost on the offensive boards, if anything. I don't really want to start making comparisons for Marshall when he hasn't even played a game yet, but the best comparison I can make is that he is a more athletic, better shot-blocking Brian Zoubek. Zoubek was never a force on offense, outside of the occasional above-average performance, but he still provided plenty on defense by being such a force in the paint. This is the kind of player I see Marshall Plumlee being for the time being. Is there anything wrong with that? Of course not.
Just look at it this way: a 9-0 Duke squad that has already defeated plenty of the country's best teams is about to get even deeper. That alone should get you excited for a Marshall Plumlee comeback. When is he coming back?
StevewisemanNC: Coach K said Marshall Plumlee could have played today. The two games after break (Dec 19-20 vs. Elon, Colgate) should be his time.
Yep, he is back. Next Wednesday, he is back. Duke was already scary good. Now, they're going to be downright terrifying.

How Big Of An Impact Will Marshall Plumlee's Return Make? One thing that is being drastically overlooked by observers throughout the young college basketball season is that the Duke Blue Devils have so brilliantly guided their way through a brutal early season schedule without Marshall Plumlee, a guy who was expected to be one of their most valuable bench players heading into the season.
Marshall, the 7'0, 225 lb younger brother of Duke phenom Mason and Indiana Pacers' Forward Miles, has yet to return from a foot injury he suffered in mid-October. The redshirt freshman had drawn praise from coach Mike Krzyzewski in the early stages of training camp, as evidenced by this tweet from Stephen Wiseman:
@StevewisemanNC: Coach K said Marshall Plumlee was playing well enough to be team's 6th man before his injury.
This isn't much of a shocker. Plumlee, like his two brothers, is an athletically gifted big man who is capable of making an impact on both ends of the court, although his current skill-set makes him much more a force on defense. This isn't a problem, as Duke's offense revolves around their guards, adjusting this season only because of the emergence of Marshall Plumlee's offensive output. Meanwhile, Duke is badly in need of someone who can spell Mason, as the star forward is averaging roughly thirty-four minutes a game. Typically, you only want your best big men playing around thirty minutes per game and Plumlee is already way past that.

He has no idea what his argument should be at this point. DSv3 and SilentSam just want this season to end and Dam Kane to die a slow death.

I see the obsession with all things Duke continues at the Markie household. always grasping for something negative to say; what an existence you lead. so typical of unc cheat fans; arrogant to the living end

Well since ducksick v3 is so interested in ncaa failures, how did old Roy do with Kansas with all those final four trips....u can spin things however u want to make anyone look bad. Bottomline K is regarded as the greatest of all time, nothing u can say or do will change that fact.

That is what I say about the fact that K has missed the NCAA tournament 7 times in his career versus once for Roy when talking about who is the better coach.

    Thanks for agreeing.

i still do not understand how losing in the ncaa tourney is worse than not making it at all, especially for a blue blood program, no matter how many times u say it, everyone will know a nit bid is worse.

But still not as embarassing as last years record tying choke in their opening game of the NCAA tournament. Oh wait.....they lost because Kelly was injured. LOL! Nice try, little buddy.

Not so much hating, just all-too familiar with dook's recent NCAA Big Dance history, after being ranked highly at some point each season and always being favored over those teams that "SLAPPED 'EM" out of the tourney so inhospitably.

(Flameouts 7 out of last 8 years including Lee says "Howdy".)

These are just good facts of which to keep mindful.

This team is playing at a very high level, competing hard, playing good defense and closing out games strong. Anyone that says this isn't a final four caliber team is just hating. Long way to go. But, as of now...playing the early schedule Duke has and still without Marshall, I like this Duke team to make the final four.

  • blueduke4 Dec 10, 2012

With a healthy engaged Marshall this team has a great chance for the final four, maybe without, but depth is an area they can improve on for sure, luckily it's early and there is time for that improvement.

Quinn cook said the guy was a beast on the def boards in practice, if we can get half beast out of him this season I'm good. Lol

He's gonna suprise a lot of people when they see what he brings to this team. Quin said that he dominated on the defensive end during early practice sessions and has made great strides on offense also. Can't wait to see this team in March.

It should be exciting. Marshall has always been called the best of the 3 brothers. Loved the double-doubles by Kelly and Mason.

  • 903 mens national championships Dec 9, 2012

It's been fun enough seeing the addition of a 100% healthy Quinn Cook which allowed everyone else's games to improve. I can't wait to see Marshall playing in the middle at times which allows Mason to play some at power forward when Marshall is in the game. They'll also be able to play Kelly at the 3 at times which should take allow Seth Curry to get additional minutes on the bench to minimize his minutes and keep him ready for the stretch run.
