Most likely, but Coach K is starting to go after Gavin Schilling. Schilling is outside the top 100 right now but holds offers from 10+ schools. None of them, however, are anywhere near Duke's level. I think K could snag him late, similar to Amile Jefferson.

If parker commits do you think he, semi, and Matt Jones will be the only recruits?

What would the starting lineup look like you think? Cook, sulaimon, hood, parker, plum3?

2014 recruits won't look at jabari as a threat to any playing time as he will likely be gone.....duh

Jabari plays Matt's team tonight not next Thursday, K will be in attendance tonight then moving on to Vegas to see Gavin Schilling.

I dont believe any recruit will be thinking Jabari is in ther way for playing time as he will be the number one overall probably.

I think that's what makes Coach K so successful. He understands the importance of and recruits and develops the glue guys. It's much better to have a mix of guys (like this season's team) that all understand what they should be doing to help the team succeed at the cost of points and playing time in some cases.

Yes, and it also drives talent to other teams. If I'm #2(or 3-10, for that matter) in my position behind JP, why would I even consider the school that he chose? Hmmm, let me go to a school that I know I'm behind on the depth chart, and a place that plays 7 for the most, and maybe 8. No, I'll choose... Kentucky...

Plus, high level talent pays attention to other high level talent. They see these guys choosing Duke and how highly they speak of K and the program. Most definately helps with future recruiting, and having Lebron endorse you doesnt hurt either:)

The bad thing with one and dones is you have one year to win with them,if you don't it was a failure

If he plays one year and doesn't win it all but goes on to be an NBA All-Star, it's still better to have had him one year than not at all. That's how you attract other players to come to your program. HS kids care about where they can go to be on TV and get to the NBA more than winning an NCAA title.

Im not 100% he is a one and doner, more than likely he is, but the kid has a different set of values than most in his position.

Not to many. They are certain classes that are good and they are classes that are bad. The best class is the class of 2016.That class is loaded with size and skill. Parker is a one and done. The bad thing with one and dones is you have one year to win with them,if you don't it was a failure.

I wouldn't count my chickens just yet. 17 year olds are about as reliable as weathermen when it comes to committments. But yes, the signs are there for a Duke "get!" The ACC needs all the blue chippers it can muster these days. Hicks to UNC and Barber to NCSU are legit top 20 guys, with Jones of Duke in the top 25 neighborhood. No top tens on the board....yet.
Duke's focus is the class of '14 with Jones, Okafor, Lyles, Winslow, Pinson, Allen and Vaughn very good possibliities. They'll need bigs, and Lyles and/or Okafor would solve that area. Jones (from Minn.)has stated he wishes to NOT have to come in and be the focal point his first season at point guard, but be an understudy his freshman year. Lyles backed off an early Indiana commit; Okafor is from Chicago, a coach K nesting ground; Pinson is an NC kid from High Point with major skills; Allen a highly athletic SG from Florida.
Could go on, but a major school only needs 2 or 3 of these type players per year to sustain their lofty status. Too many and the playing time dwindles and the grumbling begins. Let's be honest, these days its all about instant gratitude. Few kids actually are willing to come in, start at the bottom rung on the ladder and work their way up. They choose to learn while they earn in the NBA. Parker might stay two years at wherever he lands but will be an instant impact player for that school. Let's hope its Duke!

Given his list (Stanford, Florida, BYU, MSU, Duke) is so strange, I don't rule anything out with Jabari.

Of course, Duke has home games next Weds and Thurs so I find it hard to believe they're going to be in Texas the day he announces.

Agreed 903, a true pg would have undoubtedly helped rivers.....I just cannot see any sort of comparison between parker and rivers other than the hype out of high school. Do you think parker is a lock for Duke? And how many times will unc fans heads spin for missing out on Wiggins, parker, and randle?

I don't blame Rivers for the issues last year. If Quinn Cook was healthy for the whole year, the season might have ended completely differently.

Parker is the anti rivers, Mormon kid, humble, and has had to work for his, very blue collar type CURRENTLY. Parker is no doubt one and done, as his talent is that high, but comparing the two Is not a fair assessment.

If we get him, he's not staying past a year. And if he plays like rivers, it won't be a good thing for the team. We do remember how rivers carried the team in the NCAA's last year.

Jabari Parker is an absolute beast. Kid has won three state titles and a gatorade poy BEFORE his senior year. SI called him the best high school player since King James.....that is a lil much to me, but the kid has only gotten better and better. Adding Jabari Parker to next years Duke squad is a big deal.....he may possibly be considered the highest level talent freshman to ever enter Duke, and there has been some great ones.

Jabari definitely scheduled his announcement knowing that Coach K, Capel, and Wojo were all going to be present in the gym. This kid is a class act. Can't wait to see him in Duke blue!

    http://blogs.suntimes.com/hoopsreport/2012/12/jabari_parker_set_to_announce_.html

Duke and Michigan St are the favorite, with Duke being the perceived leader. Parker, combined with Rodney Hood, Matt Jones, Semi Ojeleye and the host of returning Blue Devils has to make them the favorite in 2013-14. That team is going to be absolutely loaded and more athletic than maybe any Duke team... ever.

Coincidently (or not), Jabari's high school team will be playing DeSoto (TX) that Thursday. DeSoto is Duke commit's Matt Jones current team, and Coach K, Wojo, and Jeff Capel are all scheduled to be in Texas that night for the game. It will be nationally televised on ESPN at 9pm EST. That has to be a good omen for Duke.
