Matt Jones Update

Matt Jones Update

His Desoto team took down #1 Simeon with K, Wojo, and Capel in attendence. I know at one point in the first half he was 7-10 with 17 points.

Jabari kept subbing in and out of the game. The announcer said he's still at about 60% so this wasn't indicative of how good he will be when he's back at 100%.

RE: Matt Jones Update

It is starting to look really good with our recruits for next season. Hope they all can continue to develop their game and stay away from the injuries.

lol

All as in semi and matt as of now lol

RE: Matt Jones Update

Matt Jones is the real deal, so is Semi and Jabari. Can't wait to see them, along with Rodney Hood next year.

It's difficult to shift gears from football to basketball with such a big football weekend ahead of us, but I enjoyed watching last night's Arlington Seguin-Kimball and DeSoto-Chicago Simeon doubleheader in Grand Prairie's Turner Gymnasium.

I didn't get to write much about DeSoto's win because it was the late game, but I was impressed with how the Eagles played. Despite playing against the nation's top-ranked team, according to ESPN's Power 25, DeSoto was too good for Simeon.

DeSoto (14-1) has now played 15 games this season, while Simeon was playing just its second game. The difference in the conditioning of the teams was apparent from the start. Simeon star forward Jabari Parker, a 6-8 senior who is one of the nation's top recruits, is still getting back in basketball shape after suffering a broken foot in July.

DeSoto is balanced and impressive with players such as guard Takedrick Brown and forwards Terry Maston and Devin Wyatt. And guard Matt Jones, a Duke signee who was playing in front of Blue Devils coach Mike Krzyzewski (as well as Michigan State's Tom Izzo, SMU's Larry Brown and several other coaches), was the most impressive player of the night.

I love his style of play. Jones is an excellent shooter from 3-point range and midrange, and although he doesn't have point guard-like ballhandling ability, he's very smooth around the hoop and has some crafty moves. The 6-4 senior doesn't force much. He lets the game come to him, and yes, that's a monster cliche', but it fits him well. Jones just flows with the game and has a good sense of everything. He always knows where to be, has good body language on the court, and seems like he would be a fun teammate.

That's not always the case with guys as talented as Jones. I look forward to seeing more of DeSoto and Jones this season.
