Sure is nice of coach K to load up for Brad, eh Markie. Bringing in what should be the #1 recruiting class and adding Rodney Hood.

The better question to ask is who will replace hop-a-long Roy since he will be leaving loooooooong before coach K. The way things look after the ecu debacle he'll run out of natural disasters to compare this team to waaaaaay before the season is over. How many games can he leave early before the big donors have had enough and ask for his resignation.

And if he wins a title, with league expansion he will never equal it. Retirement is soon.

I remember when K was introduced as coach, I can live with a few more years of him being there.

You are correct. I really don't see him leaving for at least another 3-4 years. The only way he would leave earlier is if he wants to spend more time with his grandkids and his better half and who could blame him for that? I think next year will be year 30, if I am not mistaken? If he so decides, that would be a nice round number to call it a career.

If he wins this season, he retires.

cool find THV, I just feel specualting about K's replacement is very premature, unless he wins one another NC VERY soon, I see him there for a long while to come, and heck, he may stay even if he does win another NC soon.

The News and Observer and Charlotte Observer both had stories about it. The links do not work any longer. Curious? This one was found on CNNSI-fannation site:
http://www.fannation.com/truth_and_rumors/view/54414-coach-k-wont-pick-successor It is supposedly from the Charlotte Observer, but of course, the link no longer works :(

I saw it on the DBR website (yes I do read about other teams). I need to rephrase a bit. He said he should be involved, but would not make the final decision.

He also said that he would not be a major player in who is chosen to be the next coach. That is a lame excuse for Duke not to choose a current or former Duke coach to take his place. There will be just as much pressure on an outsider, not from his system to take over.

  • blueduke4 Dec 19, 2012

K has already stated that he would prefer one of his in house guysa NOT coaching Duke when he leaves, he says to much pressure on them in a first head coach stint. I could see a number of guys filling the position, including Stevens, who has said several times K is his coaching idol.

    The obsession continues.

Stevens will not be replacing him any time soon. They will look within the family (Capel, Dawkins, Amaker, Wojo, Brey and Collins) first, and if/when that fails to produce the desired results, they will look outside of Dook's inner circle. Maybe in 10 years, he may be your guy. That all depends on how patient the Dook big wigs will be with his immediated successor.

  • DooksucksV3 Dec 19, 2012

I would love to see it happen. Stevens could win without having paid players and having to flop instead of play defense.

so someone thinks Stevens is going to replace ratK. Immaneeda Link.

Well, I guess that takes him out of the Roy's replacement search.

Dont worry when K decides to retire, Brad will be right there to continue the tradition.

How long will it take Dookies to forget the disgraced K who had to use illegal players to win?

At least Stevens will do it the right way for a change.
