Bottom-line, dook has less ability to withstand bad performances from their top 3 players than state or UNC.

No need to bookmark/stalk...simple real-time key-word searches work wonders.

Not sure where picking on posters for naming arbitrary dates/stats come in play.

I actually think Kato is funny most times. We can usually go back an forth and laugh. I don't know what happened today as I have yet to follow the thread that Kato was mistaken about. I hope we can still argue in jest.

I am still laughing at the arbitrary 9ppg. Why 9? Why not 10?

Kato, please tell me you don't bookmark people's post up here like you actually care. It's Smack Talk, not Stalk Talk.

Also, tell me you will not pick on posters for naming arbitrary date/stats.

^ouch. and kato prides himself on all the hours he spends bookmarking and saving quotes from state and duke fans. not only is that obsessive and a waste of time (for most people), but he isn't even good at that lame skill.

So let's get this straight -- rotary's contention is on Brice's current ppg average being rounded up by kato from 8.9 to 9.0???

Gonna need a link to me taking a dig at NCST not having players that can step up(don't look 2 post up as that will blow this topic out of the water). Heck, did I even say that UNC didn't have players that could step up?

You said 9ppg or better, not me, and it was false. The real difference between those 6 is 7.9 ppg fyi. (LOL 9ppg?)

Don't consider myself a homer but you are entitled to think what you like. IMHO your posts so far have been complete fails(see arbitrary 9ppg).

I understand that you are wanting to engage me but atleast make some sense.

  • kato_karma.v4 Jan 4, 2013

    Uhhh...ok there rotary.

Given you are backing up on your initial dig that neither state or UNC has players that can step it up (your quote, not kato's)...

Then we shall conclude that a mere .1 ppg difference in the state vs UNC comparison equates to a COMPLETE FAIL in your retort.

Best just to admit you are a helpless dookie homer.

You will see Duke/NCST's sisterly relationship 1-12-13 at 12pm est.

NCST has 6 players that average 9ppg+. I believe they have more than just 2 people that can "step it up"

    Deflection?

http://rjw57.github.com/notes/_images/montoya.jpgDidn't address State because your 9+ppg was accurate for them and I am not discussing this with a State fan(unless you have switched up teams).

My post includes "step it up" Thornton and 9ppg. Try again maybe?

By your extremely loose(ie. incorrect) use of the word deflection, we can assume that your post is a major deflection, since my post was a continuation of the subject matter and yours was to claim a false internet victory.

I will accept silence as consent over UNC having 5 players averaging 9ppg or better. I will also accept silence as consent for defense, leadership, intagibles, etc being alternate ways to "step it up." Just keeping you honest.

This is where you deflect and attempt to change the subject. =D

LOL UNC has 5 players averaging 9ppg or better as of today(see Brice Johnson at 8.9ppg). Your strange arbitrary amount of 9ppg is pretty funny.

In true UNC fashion, "step-it-up" has to come from offense. It's not like Thornton could "step-it-up" by coming through with 3 assist, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals against a top ranked team off the bench, something none of those UNC players that are blistering the the score boards with their 9+ppg(except Johnson) can say.

LOL @ 9ppg or better. You sir are hilarious. It would appear that all of those burger boys fighting over 9ppg are impeding UNC ability to "step-it-up"

Unlike other teams we shall not name (oh why not state/UNC) Duke has other players who can step it up...note: Kelly/Thorton/Cook...where the other teams we shall not name (you know who) would/will crumble if their 3 top scorers have an off night (Sulaimon stuggled as well..1/6 8 points). Duke has one other factor that the nameless are still trying to find. A solid defense.

Injuries only count if they happen to UNCheat. Also, UNC's losses are in the past, everyone else's are fair game. Oh, I almost forgot, all teams except UNC can lose vicariously through a team that has previously beat them. Wait, one more, NCAA rulings are good enough for UNC investigations, but other schools will not be protected by this umbrella.

  • seedofdoubt Jan 3, 2013
    Sports Legend

Offensive rebounding!!!! Don't have it. Duke needs to find it. Mp3 and Murphy might be the answer but we won't know until they get some solid minutes. Guards are starting to rebound better, which is nice. Perhaps it's the spread offense Duke uses that makes it hard to get second shots off rebounds. Other than that, Duke is very solid in every other area of the game and can make it to the final four without fixing this minor problem. Fix the problem and they could go undefeated.

Plumlee has embraced his potential as a senior. A gifted athlete, he runs and jumps as well as any frontcourt player in the country, and he might be the nation's best ball-screen defender. As opposed to last season, he not only carves space out on the low block but also demands the ball. He is most comfortable on the left block working to the middle of the floor, and Coach K does a great job of getting him there. He is active on the offensive glass, averaging over three offensive rebounds per game. Plumlee is having a Wooden Award-level season.

Tyler Thornton's toughness and willingness to embrace his role is what Duke basketball is all about, and he has carved out a niche for himself as a junior. He is a relentless defender who can take his man out on and off the ball, averaging almost two steals a game in just 22 minutes per. The flexibility of Duke's perimeter game allows him to sub in for any perimeter player. Offensively, he is a play starter who stays within himself, with a knack for making big shots.

Josh Hairston plays only 10 minutes a game, but he is the type of valuable contributor that every championship team needs. He is tough, physical and an excellent screener, and he prides himself on bringing energy and commitment on the defensive end.

Freshman Amile Jefferson will be a valuable reserve for the Blue Devils by season's end, as I expect his role to continue to grow. He is long and athletic, and his skill set allows him to play on the block and on the perimeter.

A nice objective article despite the author.

http://insider.espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/blog/_/name/ncbexperts/id/8809219/how-duke-improved-blue-devils-remaining-concerns-college-basketballThe Duke Blue Devils' loss to Lehigh in last season's NCAA tournament was a stunner, but there were plenty of warning signs for that team heading into the tourney. The 2011-12 Blue Devils didn't have many of the traits that have made Duke college basketball's model program for the past 20 years.

Traditionally one of the best defensive teams in the nation, Duke struggled to defend the ball off the dribble, which put it in rotations and at a defensive disadvantage. Its offense was stagnant at times, with Austin Rivers often dominating the ball as opposed to making the next pass and moving the defense. Mason Plumlee showed flashes of being an elite frontcourt player but didn't bring it every game, Quinn Cook had trouble adjusting to the intensity of the college game, and the loss of Ryan Kelly to injury at the end of the season hurt the Devils more than the average fan realized.Cook is having an outstanding sophomore season, averaging 5.6 assists per game with a 2.4 assist-to-turnover ratio. His decision-making, a real issue last season, has been outstanding, as has his shot selection. He makes enough 3s to keep the defense honest and has a knack for getting to the basket. But his greatest contribution is on the defensive end at the point of attack, an area Duke struggled with last season. Cook has the ability to defend the ball off the bounce at the point.

Kelly is one of the most underappreciated players in the country, a tough matchup who can shoot with range, put it on the floor and score on the block and a committed defender who can defend multiple positions. He uses his size and length to contain quicker players and still averages 1.8 blocks per game.
