If you're gonna try to compare the Yankees with the Braves, you really have no understanding as to how this all works. The Luxury Tax Titans clearly have a financial advantage & always have.

Schmidt - more holes in his swing than a truckload of donuts.

Yankees - Deep pockets, major advantage over 90% of the league. On paper, they should win it every year.

Braves - If guys like Justice had spent more time playing versus worrying about how loud the fans were, his playoff BA of .224 (lol) & his Ks - 79 (terrible) would have looked much better. With all of those Ks, Slo Mo brought a smile to the face of Swing & Miss.

You take Chip and his one ring. I wonder how many errors has he made. Schmidt was a homerun hitter. Brooks was the best on D. Brett was also the man. I thought all owners had money? If you spend it right you can build a team. Nobody wanted Gooden, Strawberry, Paul Oneal, Chuck Knoblauch, Scott Brouis, Charlie Hayes, etc.. The Knicks are worth a billion, and how many rings have they won? Same with the skins, and Cowgirls and havent done squat lately. The yanks won because of the players they drafted, Jeter, Riveria, Posada, Bernie, Cano, Pettite, El Duque, Wells, etc.. These guys produce in the playoffs unlike the choke artist called the Braves. the Buffalo Bills of baseball!

How many times have the Yankees had the highest payroll? How many players have the Yankees signed from other organizations over the years? (Going back to the days of GS) The system is set up for them to win the Series every season. Talk about choking! Brooks Robinson didn't hit consistently enough to be considered the greatest, great on D but only hit .267 for his career (average). Schmidt was a .267 hitter as well & K'd 1,883 times, not to mention the fact he was a no-show in the playoffs. He hit a lot of HRs but he is no Brett. Brett actually had more extra base hits than Captain K. In 8 different series, Smitty batted .236, .220 in 2 WS appearances...TERRIBLE!!!

Brett did it all, .305 career BA, over 3,000 hits, 3 batting titles, almost batted .400 once, WS champion. Easily the best 3b of all-time. I laugh when people compare Mike Swing & Miss Schmidt with Brett. The evidence says George Yankee Killer Brett was the greatest 3B ever. I'll go with Captain Clutch, who batted .337 in 9 different series played, .373 in 2 WS. I would put Chipper & Boggs ahead of the two you mentioned. Hey, remember when Teardrops Schmidt got off to a poor start in 1989, called it a career on May 29 of that year? Brett would never have quit like that.

  • Toddler10-21 Feb 3, 2013

Highest payroll doenst always win just ask the Cowgirls, knicks, and skins over the years. Tell the Braves thanks for Justice, and Sheffield, and Texeria! Hey yall want A-Rod? Didnt want himin the first place.

  • Toddler10-21 Feb 3, 2013

And dont forget Ship tell them not to choke! What was is 14 straight Divison titles, and won the WS only once? The great pitching was all you use to hear. My yanks spanked there rear ends twice in the WS! Mike Schmitt, or Brooks will go down as the best.

Yep....Chipper is my favorite Brave all-time & arguably the 2nd best 3rd baseman all-time (Only SH in MLB history to retire with a .300 BA & over 400 bombs - out of approx. 18,000 to play the game). Have to give that nod to my favorite all-time player, George Brett. Enjoy your trip to ATL, Larry...Turner Field is awesome. The Braves look to be very good on paper, just need to avoid injuries & play up to their capabilities.

Braves - OF is looking very good, Bravos could make a serious run.

Duke v Miami - just one of those games. K will figure things out as usual but I do wish RK was back. The Terp game seemed to get them back on track.

The PGA must do something about that. It was flat out ridiculous that 11 holes took almost 4 hours to complete. They need to start assessing a stroke penalty instead of just threatening to do it. If the pace of play was where it should have been, he would have won by 8-10 strokes.

I think Tiger was sending a subtle message to Rory that he is still king over at Nike.

  • Tizu Jan 29, 2013

    Off topic, I know...

But Tiger made the rest of the field look like a bunch of candy azzzes like he used to.

Does this mean "Tiger's back"? It's too early to tell...but I'd love to see him win the Master's again. He got bored and frustrated with the slow play at Torrey Pines...he had it in the bag after round 3, they should have just called it instead of delaying the inevitable.

I feel a little bit better after that game, but I do not take too much out of beating a struggling Maryland team. Duke needs Kelly to have any shot at making a decent run. K sounded a little more optimistic the other day discussing the possibility of him making a return before the end of the year.

I love the CBS college basketball along with the "One Shining Moment" music too, JGunn. Whenever I hear it it reminds me that spring is not too far away! :)

I refer to Duke as "Duke, they and them". I'm not a member of the team, nor did I attend the university, so I cannot say "we" as I'm not part of the program other than the fact I'm a die hard fan.

I don't remember seeing the Masters commercials at the beginning of the year before this year, but I've been seeing them, and all I can think of is "dont' rush the basketball season". I need to hear the CBS basketball music. I need to hear "One Shining Moment", even if the Heels won't be the ones in the confetti, holding up the trophy, cutting down the nets.

After your guys dismantled Maryland, you must be feeling better. Even after the State game, I'm still not ready for The Masters!

You get it, JGunn!! I knew someone would.

For years and years CBS has started the commercials for the Masters at the first of the year. The Masters is my favorite event for all sports, that is unless Duke is not in the Final Four or the Braves are in the Series of course. The years I think Duke has a great shot, I hate seeing the commercials. The years I know there is not a shot, I look forward to them.

I am not ready to give up on my boys yet, but right now I welcome those commercials more and more. :)

Duke had a horrible shooting night against Miami. How many times has Coach K lost in this fashion? Not too many times in his entire coaching career. It's way too early to punt Duke fans.

I would put my money on Coach K vs any coach in America. Just look at his record; folks. Teams play up and down all of the time. Look at L'Ville right now. Rick Pitino could be pulling his hair out by the way they have played of late. Frank Beamer finally fired 4 coaches last week. He's looking better all of the time now too.

Too much basketball to be played. Phil, Webb, Dustin Johnson, Rory, and many others are my favorites. Phil hurt himself this week with his tax statement. He came back an stated that he was sorry for this. He ought to leave California. The highest tax base in the USA.

BP, I know you're not really giving up on your Devils. I don't blame you for being pizzed, but Duke will be back. It was one of "those" games teams have; there's really no explanation for it. Missing Kelly doesn't cause Duke to play like they did last night. K will figure it out.

Hey, there's room for you on the Light Blue Fan Base:) Kidding - I know you'd rather blind yourself.

As for the Masters - I hate that tourney, because it signals the end of college basketball.

I have stated on numerous occasions that Larranaga is one of the best coaches out there in all of Division I basketball. He has total discipline of his teams. You can tell this in the way they gut it out each game. Respect is the key word. They never let up when they are on the floor for him.

I don't know, Cuss. Miami gave Duke ample opportunities to build a lead. Duke was up 9-6 after missing wide open shot after wide open shot. Once Duke went cold, Miami settled in and had them shook from there on out.
What concerns me is that Duke just flat out gave up in the first half.
I hope that 3 hour practice early this morning got to them.

I knew Miami had the best starting guards in the ACC with Larkin and Durand Scott. What I didn't know was how much the other players would develop around them. And it was one of those blessings in disguise that they lost Reggie Johnson for the last four weeks as it forced them to develop that depth even faster. And finally, it is not a surprise that Larranaga has done all of this since he did even more with less talent at George Mason.

Miami had 4 seniors on the court and an experienced quality point guard. I agree about Miami not being picked higher. I also thought they should have been picked higher, not 1 but behind Duke and State. I got say I haven't seen anyone play defense that well against Duke.

    Thank God.

Many words can be used to describe last night, one that comes to my mind is JOKE.

The fact that they were number one- JOKE (and I have said that the last few weeks)
Mason Plumlee ever being considered for NPOY- JOKE
The effort shown by Duke last night- JOKE
Every time Josh Hairston touches the ball- JOKE
Rushing the court for beating this Duke team- Biggest JOKE

I kind of figured Miami would win the game. In fact, I thought before the game that they would end up being ACC Champs. But, I never expected the complete curb stomping they received last night.
