A quote from an article on cbssports.com (2-5-13) "There is no denying this is a different team without Kelly, and not just on the offensive end of the court, where he has been Duke's most efficient long-range shooter this season. Kelly is also a cerebral positional defender who rarely makes mistakes and also has length to bother shooters. Cerebral means smart Toddler, something you seem to lack.

You nailed this one MoDuke. Duke's defense gave them opportunities to score the ball. Coach K doesn't miss many in breaking down an opponent.

"Hey Ship If K were coaching State this year what will there record be?" toddler

State would be 19-3, 20-2, something like that if K coached 'em.

You made some solid points in this one. Coach K won two Gold's and those super-stars respected and they love Coach K. K is a straight shooter with strong discipline, and this is another reason why Duke has won so many games under his leadership.

State would be a legit. ACC contender if K were running the show.

Hey Ship If K were coaching State this year what will there record be? I would say only one loss. State has lost too many close ones. Not smart enough players, or coaching? I think both. Gott just cant get through to CJL. Too much talent, and a junior who makes silly mistakes. Think K would do wonders with CJL. Look what he did with the egos of Lebron and company!

Still trying to figure out when he became such a great defensive player? Communicator? He is the only one allowed to talk on defense? You mean two, or three flopps a game. 6'11" and five boards, and two blocks. Great numbers for his size. Again Ryan Kelly is the CHOSEN ONE TWO!! Lookout Lebron!!

  • Toddler10-21 Feb 3, 2013

Deadly outside shooter! Just stand in front of him, and wont even look at the basket, and lord knows if he tries to drive we all know it would land ten rows up. Yeah you are right 6'11, and maybe 4 rebounds will land in his hands a game. Give you this, deadly shooter when wide open, and a great flopper!!

Duke's defense against FSU today was very impressive. They need to bring this kind of effort consistently because they aren't going to hit 61% of their FGs and 61% from 3 point range many games. I think their offense fed off their defense today and will ultimately be the defining factor in how far they go this year.

    GO DUKE!!!!!

Good to see the armchair coaches displaying their brilliance! This article should have been titled "Duke misses the effect Kelly has on opposing defenses". It is no secret that a dangerous 6'11 outside shooter, great Guards, and a potential POY Center spreads the floor to the point that there are few teams that it doesn't create a defensive nightmare for! Keep grasping for straws little ones.......

yep 5 rebounds,2 blocks,1 steal, 13 points, and his play on offense pulls a big out of the post because he hits over .500 on 3 pointers (making it easier for Duke to rebound). Hard to shoot over 6'11" and hard to drive on a player that can move his feet. Oh, and taking a charge (you know taking a defensive postion by using good footwork and knowledge of the game) is legal, acceptable, and considered GOOD DEFENSE. Kelly takes at least 2/3 charges per game. Must rub you raw to know he's so good at it!

Mason has always had to do it all on the inside by himself on the inside. I guess Kelly now averages a double double? Im betting maybe four or five rebounds fall in his hands every game.

Still trying to figure out when Kelly became such a great defender? Smartness, and footwork? You mean the best flopper on the court! Hope Duke never lose another game because we know what the excuse will be.

According to Duke fans losing the Cousy award winner, the backup pg, a shooting guard and having your best defensive player at 50% isn't a reason to not win it all! Interesting!!

  • seedofdoubt Jan 30, 2013
    Sports Legend

Kelly has the smarts to be a good defender which offsets his lack of quickness and he has great defensive footwork. I agree that Kelly out of the line-up is wearing on Mason on both ends of the court. Would be nice if K could switch to a zone for 3/4 minutes in each half to give him a chance to rest.
